King for a Day - Fool for a Life Time

I've been listening to a lot of older heavy stuff lately - Sepultura - Roots, Pantera - Far Beyond Driven and Faith No More. What a good album. I never gave it a chance when I was younger because it didn't have the original guitarist but I'm really digging it right now. Mike Patton is probably my favorite vocalist ever and Billy Gould's bass playing is killer as well.

"Patton defecated in an orange juice carton and then sealed it and returned it to Axl Rose's tourbus vending machine." - Wikipedia.

Ha! - Classic!

King For A Day...
Album of the Year
Angeldust
The Real Thing

That is how I rank them. None of them are bad, it's just King and Album have so much more going on that The Real Thing didn't and that Angeldust was just starting to explore.

Angel Dust is my favorite and I hated King for a Day for years, but now I really dig it.

I hated King For A Day the first few times I heard it. After I grew up a little I realized how great it is. Now it's tough to even listen to The Real Thing except for nostalgia purposes.

Agreeing here. I know there are still FNM fans out there who are still bitter about Patton joining the band in the first place, but I think they just got so much better on later albums. I think Jim Martin leaving definitely left its mark too; he had little to do with Angel Dust and of course he was gone after that.

interesting thread! i just listened to king for day for the first time in months. they play so many different styles on this it's amazing. billy gould gets a great overdriven sound on some of the tunes.

The thing that stands out for me the most on the album are Mike Patton's vocals - amazing. I wish he would "sing" more often on his newer stuff. I really like his screaming don't get me wrong but he has such a good voice it seems like a waste to be screaming and freaking out most of the tme.

Faith No More is one of my all time favorite bands. King for a day is one of their best if not THE best album. Sadly I never had the pleasure of seeing them live.

One of THE best bass tones of all time, IMHO.
Incredible growl.

I much prefer Angel Dust, but King for a Day has some really cool stuff on it. Cuckoo for Caca is immense!

I saw them live on the Album of the Year tour, refined yet intense performance, ou tof control but totally in control at the same time. It was at the Warfield and one of the best rock shows I have seen.

It was during this same tour that me and a good buddy of mine were back in college and walking around Manhattan just looking for something to do for the night. We picked up a local newspaper and saw Faith No More was playing at Roseland (huge venue in NYC).

My friend said something along the lines of "ehh I've seen them too many times. Let's go downtown to a comic book store"
I said "yeah, I'll see them next time they come around"

Few months or so later...they break up.

My friend= happy he found a new comic book store
Me = cursing a blue sky that I didn't just walk uptown and go to the show.
