Here is the single: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pm89u2iX6bw
Every review I read about this cd is that it is awesome 'classic KISS,' I had to post somewhere and I feel I can be heard here. I feel this song is terrible. I was/am a huge kiss fan, and I can't seem to tell if i've grown out of it or if kiss fans will just eat anything up that they do. Don't get me wrong, I still like the band and their music, at one point I even defended Psycho Circus. But this sounds far from classic 70's kiss to me. The song sounds like a mix of Mr. Blackwell and Heart of Chrome (80s and 90s songs for the non-kissfans). Seeing people praising this makes me think I have grown and was once a die-hard 'defend, defend, defend' kind of kiss fan. Who knows though. Anyone want to back me up or offer an argument?
(For the record I'll still defend Gene as a decent, solid bass player)

| | | | welp, I think a lot of people's tastes change as they get older (and hopefully wiser) - back in the day I would have liked most crap that they churned out.... now I cant stomach it and dont care about it, and wont pay to see a show... or even come remotely close to spending one dime on them. I heard the single... and I thought it bit.... and that CD cover is horrible... so it's par for the course... pure cheese... I guess that's cool if all ya like is cheese. |

Ever since Ace and Peter left, my interest in them has significantly declined. If they want to tour with some new crap music; fine, but lose the makeup. That gimmick has totally played itself out. I have never seen them in makeup without Ace and Peter, and I don't plan to in the future.

That being said, when I see all the swag, and now an new album cover that looks like a cheap rip off of rock and roll over, I can't help but to be disgusted. Why, I ask, how dare they keep rolling out somebody else in ace and peter costumes and make-up. They're just like Menudo at this point.
I would take them more seriously if they took that make up off and just put something out that was honest and not trying to make a buck. Its over guys, you had your time, your fans are all growns up.
Someone else said it....cheese. |

His take on them is great. To this day, he can't stand them, and mentions it on the air, every now and again.

I have never seen them in makeup without Ace and Peter, and I don't plan to in the future. | My first concert was KISS with ACE and Peter. I also saw them plenty with Eric Carr. I was cool with Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent because they had their own makeup and weren't playing a character(Tommy and E.Singer are basically Elvis impersonators,IMO). I didn't see them with Mark ST John. I did see them a ton with Bruce Kulick. Gene used to slam Ace as not being creative or growing and playing the same old stuff and then he pays Tommy to not only play like him, but also LOOK like him.
I wouldn't pay for gas to go to one of their shows these days. I can't believe people are doing so more than ever. I used to be the only person(it seemed) that would even admit liking KISS for years, but what we have today is not KISS, just a parody.
Makes me wonder if they weren't ALWAYS a joke, and I just matured enough to realize that the joke was on me.
Oh well, live and learn. |

In spite of Ace's limited vocabulary, I've always worshipped him because of his instantly recognizable (and strong) personality as a player. That asset is even more valuable than being able to play 20.000 notes per minute. His solos on " Shock Me" and " 100.000 Years" are two of my all-time favorite guitar solos ever because of that exact reason. IMO, Ace perfectly condensed his tasteful style in the "Shock Me" solo. But anyway my reaction was the same when I knew that first Tommy and then Eric were impersonating Ace and Peter. Gene and Paul should have thought of different characters for them, like they did with Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent. I hated their decision, although I also think that the Alive/35 tour concept wouldn't have been possible with two new characters replacing Spaceman and Catman.
Anyway, I'm a Kiss completist (well, minus some unnecessary compilations) and I'll grab their new album as soon as I can.

'Crazy Nights' was the big hit here, and thankfully I quickly got past that and fell hard for the earlier records. KISS have been such a motivating force in my life that I have the cover of 'ROCK AND ROLL OVER' tattooed on my arm.
So was I excited to hear there was a new album? Not really. Was I excited to hear the artwork was done by the '..Roll Over' creator - hell yes. Until I saw it. (In fairness to Michael Doret -how do you make 'SONIC BOOM' look cool as a title?)
At this point, love them as I still do, I try not to pay too much attention to what they're up to now. It's like seeing an ex-girlfriend that you really loved now going out with a complete doofus - it ruins the memories.

I was amazed they managed to get together and play at all. At one point Ace was challenging Gene to a physical fist fight.
My favorite moment was when they first reunited on the MTV unplugged show. I think that was one of their best moments and if they would have let that be the end of KISS, they would have gone out it a blaze of glory, IMO. |

BTW, saw them on tour promoting Crazy Nights ALOT. Tickets were cheap and good seats were easy to have. They actually put on a good show, except for Paul ***itching at the few who did show up that no body was showing up!
The tour with either Lick it Up, or Creatures (I can't remember which) was even worse as far as turn out. Vinnie was still in the band and they had the drums on a ridicules tank That was practically like seeing them in a small club. They didn't even try to sell all of the seats(you know times are hard when Gene doesn't even try to sell). That was the first time I saw them live without the makeup. It was also when I realized EVERYTHING they do is scripted, and any interaction with the audience is not spontaneous and just part of a well-planned well-rehearsed show. |

When they arrived to Colombia, Paul sang for the press some "Guantanamera" with a dedication to people from my country in a bad Spanish and during the concert he said exactly the same words, even with the same intonation. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
