latin ''jaco'' style

I love listening to jazz and especially latin jazz. Does anyone know of a band or group (or even solo artist) that plays a powerful driving bass in a latin jazz setting?

thanks

Jaco's style was probably too busy for Latin really....well most people couldn't get away with playing so many notes and still grooving!!

Latin jazz is a broad banner, perhaps you'll like these,
The Dave Valentine records w/ Lincoln Goines and Robert Ameen
Bomboleo- an aggresive timba group
Both of these have very aggresive, cool bass playing

The version of 'Invitation' on this album - The Birthday Concert' is pretty ridiculous from a bassline point of view - Jaco is just burning all the way through - it's a very fast 'Latin' groove:

Audio:

It's a great record with a ton of amazing players on it - well worth owning.

I'm gonna have to drop a big +1 to that! It's an amazing record, I can listen to it from one end to the other without missing a track! Jaco is really on top form, with some incredible soloing and groove lines!

Whats even better is that I picked it up at HMV in a sale for £2.99 on the way to a Joe Satriani concert!

I don't know if playing like Jaco would get you a Latin gig , but if you want to hear some other Latin Jaco stuff check out his work with Flora Purim and Airto.
Andy Gonzalez is a master of Latin bass, check out his stuff with the great Jerry Gonzalez band. Bobby Sanabria & Ascension's 'NYC Ache' is a burner is you can find it, with some great electric playing from Donald Nicks. Lincoln Goines playing with David Valentin was also always great, especially the 'Live At The Blue Note'.

Richard Bona's solo albums have some cool latin and world music tracks where he is playing very Jaco type bass lines.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned Azymuth. Killer latin grooves from the groovy seventies, with very prominent upfront jaco-esque basslines and tone.

They have alot of recordings that are kind of meh...., but check out "cascades/rapid transit" and "telecommunication". Those albums have some awesome basswork on it, and its mixed right: back pickup fretless burp way up front
