i'm looking to expand my taste in latin music, so what is some good latin music?

i was inspired by the buena vista social club and wanted to know of some other good albums/artists that fit the genre. if anyone else wants to throw out there some other decent music in a different genre, feel free, i love a lot of music and hunger for more always.

thanks.

Órale,
My suggestion, XM radio's " La Vieja Escuela" " Old School" Salsa on Sunday's @ 7:00 AM eastern. Channel 94. That'll get you started Muy Bueno!

Jerry Gonzalez & The Fort Apache Band!
They excel at both types of music-
Latin AND Jazz.

in a more contemporary vein, check out sr. flavio's new album, or any of his stuff with los fabulosos cadillacs.

Where to start.

If you really want to understand this music you have to understand clave. It is the rhythmic base of every note that is played (or sang) in Son/Salsa. Here's a page that is bass oriented. You can find more with google. You can enjoy the music without knowing this but if you want to play it you have to learn how to feel clave.

Timba is where Son meets Funk, Rock, and Hip Hop. Check out Timba.com for a good taste.

Buena Vista Social Club is cool, but there are a couple of things that Ry Cooder's son does on there that makes me want to cringe.
