I have a sweet old amp that I want to use for recording. The sound I have tuned in on her right now is great when listening to it, but when I use "Line Out" I lose that great snap.. So I am thinking of using my vocal mic in front of the cab. Any suggestions? Or should I just go the obvious route and play with it until it sounds right?
Who likes what better? Lineout or mic? |

The line-out would be used to handle the low end, you can even put it through a low pass. Then you use the mic for the rest.
Note- of course your mileage may vary, it really depends on your mic and your opinion of the sound. For example, the ubiquitous SM58, commonly used as a vocal mic, has a large rolloff in the low frequencies, but when I tried it on my bass cab it filled out a mix pretty well on its own.

I have an Ampeg BA115, it has a line-out. Will using the line-out cut out the speaker or will I still be able to, as suggested here, mic the amp at the same time as using the line-out and able to use the amp as a monitor?

I have a Fender Rumble 115 and it cut out when i used the line out. Just have to give it a try. |

It cuts off when using the headphone out, the 1/4" |
