List of Tunes with Identical Changes

Sign in to disble this ad
Been trying to memorize as many standards as possible for the past few months. The harder part seems to be remembering them over time, as opposed to the initial learning.

I thought it would make matters easier to compile a list of tunes that have the same changes, (progression-wise that is), that way I could remember them in groups.

I asked my teacher about this this morning, and he said a book of this type already exists, (as I had hoped.) He told me the name, but I forgot to write it down, and I can't remember it for the life of me.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? What's the name of the book? I want to say it started with a 'c'

Thanks!

Ha! While very true, I forgot to specify I meant jazz tunes.

Standards...as in (Jazz) Standards?
If so, Mark Levine's Jazz Theory has a Chapter for that.

(I couldn't see Munji's link...BLOCKED!)

Hi,

I found this link via Google:

http://www.jazzguitar.be/jazz_chord_progressions.html

It mentions the best known ones - Rhythmn Changes (I Got Rhythmn) and How high the Moon, plus a couple of others.

Should get u started and also mentions Mark Levine's book..

Munji's link refers to the famous Cellist playing Paschabel's Canon rant...

BTW, all 12 Bar Blues tunes are, by definition, the same.

One of Jerry Coker's books (Improvising Jazz, perhaps--I forget which one, exactly) has as an Appendix listing common jazz progressions (notated with Roman Numerals).
