Little River Band

You know what is a kind of laid back song from the 70s which you would think has a boring bass line, but actually doesn't???

"Reminiscing" by Little River Band

The chorus has some very tasty double stops, fills, and the tone on the whole song is very clear and the bass is mixed to be out-front.

Give it a shot.

The B-side of this (record speak for those young'ns out there...) is a song called "Lonesome Loser" which is pretty decent as well. It has slap bass in the guitar solo. Actually they're pops instead of slaps, but pretty progressive stuff from a 70s band made of (I believe) Australians who were not trying to be a funk band.

Enjoy.

Agreed - used to play a couple LRB songs - at the time, they were great. Some of it even ages well. We used to play "Happy Anniversary" and "Lonesome Loser".

LRB is a very good example of why I toss bizzare tunes on my youtube channel. OLD doesn't have to mean crappy basslines...even on mellow groups music like LRB.

I have recently did a batch of old Cartoons and TV shows Everyone used to/still watches to get my point across, which include:

SpeedRacer,Jetsons,Flinstones,Casper,Spiderman.

tv shows like Laverne and Shirley,Bewitched,GreenAcres,GreatestAmericanHero, Munsters,HappyDays,LoveAmericanStyle, TheElectricCompany,WonderWoman.

just to name a few of the oldies mixed in with the heavy-duty speedmetal I like...

anyway, my point is in a lot of older stuff the basslines are ( if nothing else ), good practice, and usually don't sound like anything now-a-days.

Also being a person who always loved 70's pop music LRB, for example as you pointed out, I have old PartridgeFamily,DeFrancoFamily,TheSweet,Pilot,Cher .

p.s. we also did "HappyAnniversaryBaby" back in the day
