Locomotive Breath funny sound

Sign in to disble this ad
A guy at work told me about this and I had to find out for myself. During the flute solo of "Locomotive Breath" there is a funny noise that sounds like Durt or something. Hard to describe but be ready to laugh. I've heard this song many times over the years and never caught it until he pointed it out. I almost shot beer out my nose last night after hearing it. Here's a link to the song. The noise is at 3:02. Have fun.

Ian Anderson had a habit of grunting along with his flute playing, and sometimes even humming the tune at the same time. For a classic example of his grunting, listen to the final few bars of "Bouree".Some nice bass work from Mr Cornick in this one as well

I always assumed he was gasping for a breath there.

So did I. I also always thought that flute solo is as badass as almost any guitar solo out there.

I've never heard that sound before.

I like Jethro Tull though, and I agree with Bryan Tyler about the flute playing - it just fits so nicely.

Totally! And he's got a few good ones.

While we're on the Tull kick - The guitar solo to "Aqualung" is one of my all-time favs. It seems to me (and I could be mistaken) I heard in an interview with Ian Anderson that Martin Barre laid that down in one take.
