looking for bass grooves with a latin flavor??

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a bit more of a year playing bass, and I practice pretty much 1 to 2 hrs a day since i started... from the past 3 months ive tried to look for diferent genres of music to be a better musician no just a heavy metal bassist...

Since i started with heavy metal and hard rock i did kinda a 180 spin and got into jazz and funk, then went to blues, japanese rock, death metal and doom... and now...

Im trying to find bass grooves with a latin feel to them and i was wondering if someone here on TB knows a good band to look out for?

the only ones i have in mind right now are caifanes/jaguares and café Tacuba, and maybe carlos santana (i know he is a guitarrist, but his songs might have what im looking for at the moment). thanks in advance for the replies...

I dont know what you are refering to when you say latin feel.. But check out some Cuban stuff. eg. Isaac Delgado. Then you will have something to work on...for a long long time.

Mark May has a good one on the Doll Maker disc titled "Gangsta's Blues" that has a latin pattern and is fun to play

It's on the jukebox on his myspace page:

The Cat Empire are like latin flavoured ska-pop.

Before he joined Jethro Tull, John Glascock was in Carmen, described as prog/flamenco. They were actually pretty cool.

Find some stuff by the late Israel Lopez, AKA "Cachao". The Cuba Linda CD is particularly killer. He's an upright player who has absolute groove ownership. Even more mind boggling when you know he was 80 something when he recorded it, wrote all the arrangements, is considered the inventor of several of the grooves, and the music was almost all first take.
