Hello fellow TB'ers,

My guitarist mixed our debut CD utilizing ProTools, which we released last December. He is now wondering if the tracks can be "improved". Thus, if you have the time, I would appreciate your comments on the first song he is experimenting on - "Paganomics".

The original track is "Paganomics" the re-mixed version is "Paganomics, Live in Japan" - he picked it as a joke.

Look forward to any feedback and thanks for listening.

I really hate to comment on sound files that have been squashed for the 'net but, since you asked...

It sounds to my ear like all he did was (surprise, surprise) turn up the guitar track.

The drum mix sounds distant, paper-y and one dimensional. I'd start there.

It isn't really a 'remix' as is usually defined these days. While this may be a re-mixing of the original, this is usually reffered to as a re-recording, which is fine, in my opinion.

Plenty of bands re-record songs as time goes by.

But a remix this is not. A remix is a much more drastic approach to taking a song and completely re-inventing it. Remixes are most commonly a cross-genre ordeal.

Case in point:

The Marvelettes - 'Please Mr Postman' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dVt11UZ0uA

Cragga - 'Please Mr Postman dubstep REMIX' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_VFU...eature=related

+1 and the vocals are a little too wet.
