Looking for a particular album

Sign in to disble this ad
looking for an album with minimal instruments, bass, drum, guitar, maybe piano, but no jazz. i need something with lyrics, where i can really focus in on the bass but isnt overbearing.

so no muse, no hard rock, no rage, no cream.

im thinking something like amos lee's new one last days at the lodge with pino on bass. but i want more examples of music like this.

PS - I also dont want any motown or beatles

Chicken grease - D'angelo

I know little about the album it's on but this song is chillin' funky bassline!

Well to me John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson would be the obvious choices
What about Carole King - Tapestry or James Taylor Greatest hits - (Ian Sklar on Bass on these both I think)

Anything by Ben Folds Five. Great songwriting and playing. Some great melodies too.

I was thinking Damien Rice's 'O' album

I reckon that fits what you've described perfectly

Sounds like you're intentionally cutting yourself off from what's important.

That said, the "red" album by Grand Funk.

i am working on ear training and I dont want a lot of other instruments in there. I just want drums, guitar, and bass. dave matthews has sax and violin in it, so they are out. ben folds has an "overbearing" piano. thanks for the suggestions everyone, i have made a playlist with your choices.

Well, in that case, if you can't hear the bass clearly on the red album, you're deaf.

Good luck.

Also, check out some youtube vid where people cover the bass part. That makes it easier to figure out as well.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs ... yeah man hahahah. I duno man, you are basically looking for a singer songwritter stuff solo with one guitar. Most people like myself dont find it interesting because its very monophonic. Listen to Eric Clapton unplugged maybe, tears in heaven man. If its lyrics you are looking for listen to bands that have good lyricists in them. If you want ear training go tp http://www.teoria.com/.
