| | | | i like to get at least one bass magazine a month. be it Bass Player, Bass Guitar Magazine or Bass and Guitar Magazine and they always have album reviews and recommendations for listening. most of the time it's someone i've never heard of so that's a good way to find new stuff to listen to.
i just got a new set of Steve Harris signature Rotosound flats for my P bass so I'll suggest IRON MAIDEN!!!!! |

Another one is the initial album by Talk Wilkenfield. She has some good moves on her album. |

John Paul Jones---- "ZOOMA"
It's sssssssssssick..... in a good way. Some really creative arrangements, a lot of bass-centered structures, and even some triple-neck JPJ guitar playing.

+1 to EmmyLou's "Spyboy", that's Daryl Johnson on bass
Edit: for something different try Eberhard Weber's "Pendulum", overdubbed and looped solo EUB, very listenable as it's compositionally-driven, not a chops exhibition.

| | | | Um...the guy from Tribal Tech?
His 1st two 'solo' albums-
Gary Willis- No Sweat
Gary Willis- Bent
Personally, I prefer something like above 'cause you may not think it is a bassist's album, per se.
John Patitucci's 'solo' albums fall into the same vein.

Hiromi Trio - Voice | I forget which album but I Love “Throw back the little ones“. That song is just cool as hell all the way around. I dig all of SD, and you can say that about most of their songs, but that one puts a big ol' smile on my face. Yupperz it does.

If you like heavy music I know a lot of bands with great bass players, but I wouldn't say the albums are "bass centered." |

Aretha Franklin Live at the Fillmore West 1971
King Curtis Live at the Fillmore West 1971
Jerry Jemmott's playing on both albums is just absolutely smokin!

Kate Bush - The Sensual World
Where else will you get John Giblin, Mick Karn, and Eberhard Weber on one record? Some very wonderful songs and serious great playing.

Also, no one has mentioned Michael Manring yet. He's got some true solo bass CDs that are mind-bending. Soliloquy comes to mind as well as Thonk and The Book of Flame which are more 'band' oriented with a few solo tracks. |
