I'm sure a lot of you have seen the 365 Project on Facebook, where someone is supposed to take a picture every day for a whole year, and I guess write a journal entry with said picture. It seems like an interesting concept, but I don't have much to take pictures of (or with). So I decided to do my take of it, and instead record one loop a day.
Here's my first entry, which I took off my Facebook:

Having heard about the 365 Project, I thought it would be interesting to try out. However, me being the person I am, I decided to do it in a way that I feel reflects more of who I am. So I decided to instead make a loop each day for a year, and then post it on here. I'm sure some people will find it interesting. I'm also using it as a sort of public journal of anything I record, so that I can look back at it and see what I did.
So here is my first loop: http://soundcloud.com/jaymesromanofs...anuary-18-2011
I made it this morning during the time between me waking up and me going to class.
Signal chain used: Jazz bass > ODB-3 > DD-3 > Boomerang III > Fender Rumble 15 mic'd up with a Sennheiser E609 > Alesis iO2 > Adobe Audition
What I used: The first part, being the underlying noise, was me using harmonics high on the neck (17th fret on the D string, 14th fret on the G string). This was on my Jazz bass, going into my ODB-3 for overdrive, and then into my DD-3 for the hold mode. On top of that, I played a staccato bass line, also with my OD on, in the key of D. This was put on the first loop of my Boomerang III.
After a few seconds, another pair of harmonic notes (I don't remember which) come in on the hold mode of my DD-3. I used the time function of the pedal to speed and slow down the notes, acting as a sort of melody. I actually did about six recordings messing around with the notes. My problem was trying to get it in tune with the rest of the loop, and you'll notice my struggling with that in some parts. In the end, I decided that this recording was both the most interesting and the most in-tune of the ones I did.
My thoughts: I think it sounds cool. Kind of bright and sunny. I realized after recording it that the bassline is the same one (albeit one note change) from Vader In Burgos by Mimas. I find that interesting because that was a bassline I wanted to learn and never sat down to do, but I guess I subconsciously figured it out.
I think this is going to be a fun project, and I look forward to seeing what I can do with sound and looping.

First loop made with a Cherry Pop, a Grand Orbiter and a DD-3. The second was just the Cherry Pop and the DD-3
