Love to hear some feedback on my bands debut hard rock concept album!!!

Hey all!

I'd love to hear opinions, commentary, criticism etc. on my bands new full length release.

Name of the band is Boo Radley's House. We recorded at Sharkbite studios in Oakland last year with producer Billy Anderson. Mostly musical input is what I'm after here, the record is already done and released so while opinions on mix and recording jazz are more than welcome, realize it's already set in stone so to speak. Sounds really good halfway through the second song good metal I like where you guys go within the song
worth checking out but you have to give it a chance I was ready to turn it off right away glad I didn't!!! the reason I was gonna turn it off was cause it starts off pretty run of the mill but then you guys really get into some interesting stuff. I;m on bleeding the echo right now brilliant song. I could see myself seeing you guys at a club and instantly digging this.

With nine minute songs I'm going to guess MTV isn't your target audience.

I'm hearing a cross between Rush and Tool. Definitely proggy with the mixed time signatures, but clearly on the heavy end of things. Good dynamics within the songs. Bass does a nice balance of support and out front roles depending on the needs of the song. All around everything sounds solid, tight performances from everyone. My bandmates would definitely be into you guys.

I'm always rooting for Bay Area bands to have good stuff, especially stuff that comes out of the East Bay.

Yup, some Australian new wave/ pop type band or something. Not really worried about it, it's different enough.

Seriously thanks for the compliments. Sometimes when you create something (even when you're really happy with it) it helps to get some validation other artists. If you're band mates would dig it, pass it around! We're trying to put together a lil west coast mini tour and get down to SD. Unfortunately without a lot of exposure in those target markets it hard to put together a successful gig

Thank you! I hear what you mean about the patience part of it. Were not really a band that throws a lot of hooks around. We more like to really try to draw the listener in and take them somewhere, which is sadly no easy task in today's instant gratification culture. And wow! you thought Bleeding The Echo was "brilliant"!? Thank you so much! I really like that tune, I play the Ebow guitar parts in the beginning, kind of a fun lil switch up!

Shades of that guy from Nevermore in the vocalist. I'd have done some more work on the vocals. Lots more. I don't think he's a bad singer at all but that upper register Tesseract baby-howl style that he's going for in places needs a lot more attention to be paid to the tracking and eq. It's better in some of the tracks than others but he's off pitch frequently which should have been corrected or re-tracked. In modern times there is not really any excuse to have a pitchy vocals on a record, it's a surefire band-killer and any full length with pitch issues just sounds like a demo and wastes your money on the whole. If you don't embrace pitch correction you've got to accept that you're going to be in the studio for longer doing those parts till they're spotless.

Also; the flabby kick drum sound is eating up some frequencies that the bass could probably have used. A little more trigger click on the kick drum in there could have made the whole thing sound really tight. Also your drummer could have laid off the double kick a little more than he has, especially with that round tone he's got attached to it. You've got all these groovy riffs in the vein of Porcupine Tree, Riverside etc. and you've got his feet gobbling up all your swagger.

On the whole though it sounds like a really fun record and you should be pretty proud of it.
