Does anyone know of any really good low pitched frettless grooving? Most of the frettless stuff i find is mostly upper octave solo bass stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I love Yves; but I'm looking for something a little less progressive.

Gotcha.
Rick Danko, Christian McBride, Jack Bruce, Gary Willis, Richard Bona (with pat metheny, especially bright size life), PINO PALLADINO, Squarepusher, come to mind.

Bright Size Life was Jaco, the best recording of him as a bassist, imo.

Sorry, should've specified. Bona played with metheny in a trio a while back and the live version of bright size life is particularly groovy

Bakithi Kumalo uses a lot of both ends of the neck. His *lead*- if you'll pardon the expression- type licks get a lot of attention, but he keeps the groove airtight the whole time.

Edit: Shakin-Slim gets it, too.

I play fretless, but you probably wouldn't be able to tell without really listening for it.

Check out this and the other vids from this show, unorthodox, but people like it.
