Macca's Wings Era Tone

Sign in to disble this ad
Nowadays i am digging Macca's tone in the 70's. I know he used a Ric with Pyramid flats. His Wings tone, however, is not a typical flats tone. The tone is very different from, say, his Beatles era Ric tone. Does anyone know Paul's amp setting in the 70's?

Don't know his settings, but I believe he used an Acoustic 360 for the major Wings tours early on- not the university tour they did at first, but once they started playing in bigger places. Of course, that doesn't mean that's what he used to record.

One thing is that the lineup with Jimmy McCollogh- Junior's Farm, Hi Hi Hi, Rockshow,, that period- that was a pretty rocking 70s band. I feel like his bass playing got a bit looser and more fun around then as a response to Jimmy's firey guitar playing. They were playing the same circuit as the Faces and the Who and the myriad of good time boogie bands prevalent at the time. I think some of it rubbed off on Macca's bass playing (and wardrobe).

I agree that that was a pretty rockin' band. The Wings Over America 3 (!) record set has lots of "just raw enough" playing. The Ric really stands out too.
