Mastodon's new album comes out this Tuesday, September 12th. And you can listen to the new album in it's entirety on their myspace page right now. Plus you can watch the video for their first single, "The Wolf is Loose." http://www.myspace.com/mastodon
Anyone else looking forward to this album? I thought that Leviathon was a great album and from what I've heard of Blood Mountain this may be even better. |

Just got to Sleeping Giant, very cool track. Reminds me of Iced Earth or Candlemass.

I'm only on the third track right now and so far it's ok but it doesn't sound like Mastdon to me. Where's all the crazy time changes and fast parts....... Never mind I left the house for a couple of minutes and came in to hear Capillarian Crest .....Never mind. I'm buying it. |

I like stoner rock
I like doom metal
I like death metal
I don't like Mastadon
I tried really hard to get into them (at least Leviathan), no dice, no love. I'll give this one a shot, but I don't know if my thoughts on the subject will change.
I do like it when Neal Fallon sings for Mastadon.

That's funny, I started reading your post and when you said there weren't any crazy time changes I thought, he must not have heard Capillarian Crest yet.

Troy's bass work is outstanding and his tone is HUGE.
I particularly enjoy the Cyberman chorus on one of the songs.
It's difficult, but hang in there. It's fruits are extremely rewarding. Mastodon have moved the goalposts again.

They're doing a headlining tour right now and I got tickets to see them in San Francisco in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to how these new songs sound live. I saw them with Slayer in July and they played a couple of songs off Blood Mountain, Crystal Skull and Circle Cysquatch, and both songs were awesome live. I hope they play Capilarian Crest on this tour.

I heard theres a bunch of cool cameos on this one similar to Leviathan. Josh Homme, Steve Von Till and Cedric Bixler Zavala were among them. Hmm, I never imagined The Mars Volta and Mastodon collaborating..sounds interesting.

Josh Homme has a thing at the end of one of the songs, but I didn't recognize him as a singer on any of the tracks. |

I dig it. But I am still trying to figure out if this is a Reign in Blood-> South of Heaven or a Master of Puppets -> AJFA (which of course leads down more in the future) reinvention.
Personally, I think and hope it is the former, as I don't see these guys really letting up. That said, cool freakin disc! |

Mind you, I always prefered Today is The Day to Mastodon (in the long run). I'll probably get a lend of it off a mate. |

Got it today, BTW and I'm suuuuuper impressed. Top notch stuff for sure. Very diverse and I totally agree they reinvented themselves...yet again. Still has that Mastodon vibe though.

It took a couple spins to get used to the different vocal delivery, but once I did I started to think that this may actually be BETTER than Leviathan. Leviathan has a special place in my heart as it was the album that got me into Mastodon, but I think Blood Mountain may have topped it.
Plus...BLOOD MOUNTAIN. I can't think of a more metal album name. |
