Me playing YYZ

I played in a battle of the bands with some buddies of mine last night, and our closer was YYZ.

We messed up a bit, but we only had about 3 weeks to write and perfect 3 songs, as well as learning this:

we got third.

it was judged in three categories: musicianship, originality, and stage presence.

We swept the musicianship category (most other bands were grindcore ), did pretty well in originality, but we didn't have much in the way of stage presence. We just went up there and played.

Holy Crap that was great - You carried the song. Great chops from all of you, but you REALLY need to slow it down a bit. YYZ can start to sound like 'Flight of the Bumble Bee' if played at to fast a tempo. Fantastic performance!!! Did u guys win???

They really did...I was about to say something about the singer's shirt, but then I saw the rest of them, and you could go on and on for days about the, uh... ATTIRE of that group of guys.

Yeah, I thought that was a pretty decent YYZ cover. As someone else said, maybe slow it down just a touch, but besides that it was pretty good. Better than I could do, anyway. :-D

heh, looking at photos of Shawn, he does look vaguely like Charlie, but with a much more extensive beard.

Fantastic job. I'm not big on making music a competition, but I'm surprised that performance only netted you third. The other 3 songs were original compositions? Any videos of those?

Again, nice work by the whole band, you especially.

I'll get another song up later on. We ended up only playing 2 of our originals. The last wasn't yet complete.

One was a show at a local Borders Books where we were told that we'd be playing a two hour set before an "established band" came on at 8. We decided to do a laid back acoustic show (acoustic guitar, bass and hand drums and a few mics) of originals and some covers (Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley - I even pulled out a banjo for a terrible bluegrass styled "Killing in the Name Of") just to have a good time.

As we're packing up, we see the next band setting up. They looked like a mid twenties version of the band in that link. And they proceeded to put on their full-on, thrashing screamo show in the little cafe at Borders. It was one of the more ridiculous things I've ever seen.

Are you guys in high school?!?!?!

Regardless, awesome job on YYZ. It does need to be a little slower, but you guys still rocked it.

The band that won...wow.

Icon - your tune was great, I'm no Rush aficionado, but it was a pleasure to listen to.
