This means the world to me.

I have been playing bass for the better part of 13 years. After 7 years of playing live and in numerous bands we found ourselves with the perfect line up. We are about to release our debut EP in May and have posted two mixed tracks. I am such a huge fan of the instrument we all love and would love to hear some feedback from everyone if possible.

Please let me know your HONEST opinions...it would mean the world to me if you'd take a moment and check it out.

Thanks so much to everyone!

Justin!

I think your bass tone is just right for the song / genre, plus you are in the perfect spot in the mix. I like the little flourishes by the lead guitar in the first track.

Your tone sounds awesome. I wouldn't mind hearing your songs on the radio.

Not my cup of tea per say, but I really like the mix and general tone and dynamics of the songs.

Everything sounds great - but I'd advise you in the future not to lean so heavily on the AutoTune feature on the vocal tracks... it's a tad distracting.

Hey fretlessman, we actually didn't use a ton of auto-tune. We used a bit of melodyne to bring out a bit more in the harmonies because there is only one vocal in the band, but we strayed from auto-tune. We spent about a week and a half if not a bit more on vocals and they might sound a bit over produced due to the time we spent on it. I know our singer (Drew) would have rather gone for a more raw sound, but at the end of the day our music is on the pop side and you must give justice to the songs. Despite what everyone listens to when we all get together this is music we make and we accept it fully, embrace it and love it!

Thanks everyone for keeping the comments coming!

I'm really impressed. I see what you mean about the perfect lineup, everyone sounds really good.
Which bass did you use on "Impossible" and "Oblivious"? (the 71 P?)
And did you record direct to Pro Tools, or through an amplifier?

What matters is that you know what you like, and you got what you wanted. That vocal style is a pretty competitive sound these days, so I'm inclined to agree with you. It's got that "quasi-vocoder" sound to it.

Nice work all around.

I quite like it.

It's not exactly what I would play, but for style it is, it is great stuff!

I look forward to more!

Bassifumi - Thanks for the kind words. I've been playing with the drummer and lead guitar player since I was 16. I am 22 now, the drummer is amazing...he's also my brother He's been playing since he was 5 and is now 23. The guitar player is one of my best friends and our mother's have been friends sine 3rd grade. The dynamic of the band is great because of how many years we have been playing together. I love playing with these guys. My girlfriend actually found our singer and that took us like I said 6 years to settle on the right guy and 3-4 other bands and various projects along the way.

As for the bass I used - I ended up bringing a ton of stuff with me to our friend Trevor Simpson's studio where we recorded (rightrightrecording.com)
I ended up using the following of my gear on the record:
Fender American Jazz Bass (05') Maple board--
I brought both my Ampeg SVT Classic's (both American, one black one anniversary) the anniversary was used on 5 of the 7 tracks and the black on the other 2
I ran a mixed signal of the direct which was ran into a sansamp BDDI that i used as a DI and never actually activated it and the amps into an 8x10

The mixture of the two was amazing and I could not have been happier with the tone

Fretlessman - you're exactly right. I'm not sure about vocoder, but I know what you're saying. At least we're not rappers using Auto-Tune to pretend we can sing

Thanks for the kind words. It really means a lot to see how many people are taking time to check the tracks out and leave comments!

Sorry about your Internet cap haha.

The actual EP will be out late March or early April. An actual CD release will be held at The Recher Theatre in Towson, MD on Friday May 29.

Once the CD is out it will be on iTunes, Smartpunk.com and other outlets. I'll make sure to let you know how to get these tunes once they are fully released!

Pretty good, of course we'd all probably like to hear more, so make sure to get at least a few new songs from your CD up there when they're out.

i hesitate to type this because you know the saying; if you don't have anything nice to say...

over all, i dig it. i'm not down with your singer... but everything else i like. i like his voice... it just sounds like he's trying too hard to draw everything out. almost like he's singing a parody of that "style" of singing. i actually cut it off because i wanted to scream at my computer... "just sing already. stop dragging every word out." but otherwise i really like what you'll are doing.

i'm sorry. i hate to say something critical about someone else's work. i know what it's like to put all that time in and get something you're proud of. so please don't think i'm just trying to put somebody down. i'm just trying to be honest. good luck and continued success.
