I am a big fan of thrash metal, and I love megadeth. Dave ellefson is a really good bassist, and his tone on rust in peace is awesome. The bass really sticks out, and he writes some really complicated stuff. He plays with a pick on this album, but i just play it fingerstyle. Has anyone else noticed how awesome this album is both in general and bass wise? why is ellefson so underappreciated in the bass world? |

Megadeth's Rust In Peace made me a metal fan.

I really love the tone he achieved on Countdown to Extinction, both the song and album. |

Regardless I've always thought that David had a great tone on all of the albums he played on.

| | | | My favorite songs on that album bass wise are lucretia, take no prisoners, and dawn patrol (amazing bassline, creepy and ominous).
Bassjamm, what do you not like about the remastered one? |

Dave Mustaine also had to "fix" some vocal tracks, and lets just say, he's not the vocalist he was over a decade ago.

Bassjamm, what do you not like about the remastered one? | As Matt said, Vocals too high in the mix for the most part. I listened to the album twice and prefer the old one by far.
And some songs like take no prisoners guitars sound different less crunchy(not as good)

| | | | I love Rust In Peace. Probably my favourite metal album ever. Master of Puppets, Slaughter of the Soul, Piece of Mind, and Focus come close, but I don't think RIP can be topped.
Pretty much every guitar riff on that album is pure gold. The verse riff in Holy Wars? Epic.
Oh, and the bass tone in Take No Prisoners is terrible on the remaster. The solo sounds all muddy and gross. Actually, now that I think about it, I still don't know how to play that little solo.

| | | | Well, seems like the verdict is that the original is better than the remaster. I guess i'll just have to go out and get myself a copy of the original then.
EDIT: Woah! I just got the original take no prisoners from my friend, and it is so much better than the remaster. The bass is awesome on the mini solo, and there are just so many little things that you miss out on with the remaster. thanks for informing me.
