Melodic fretless song

Hey - I've had this set of chords - C-, Emaj7, Eflat7+4, F#minor, Cmaj7, Aflat7, Gdim, C#7 - knocking around for a while and I finally made a tune that fits - so here's a rough draft with a solo on the fretless - I have my looper runnig the chords and my EBS DynaVerb on for a little atmosphere - I hope to make a full tune out of this soon. It's a bitch to solo over hence a few harmonic screw-ups - I hope you dig the tone too - this bass sounds ace.

(no more fast picking vids I promise )

Thanks for checking it out

the chords are very cool indeed, the bass sounds great too.
the melody could use some more work, but i realize that it's very difficult to come up with something for these changes.
i guess the video is from a practice session, so there's not much point in analysing the soloing to much. i feel that some of your fast runs sound too "scalar" to me, but that is made up for by cool ideas at other spots.

i'd like to hear a really developed, properly arranged and recorded tune with these changes. maybe an audio file instead of a practice video. perhaps with your new jazz group.

Thanks Chris - I agree with what you are saying - this was prettty much my first attempt to mix the melody and solo ideas - I'm reallly struggling to find the time to record stuff properly at the moment hence the video. In terms of the scalier stuff it's often a reactive thing - i.e. it's not always easy to 'think' a phrase before you play it - this results in less thoughtful phrases - but believe me these changes are hard - I''m essentially going between C minor and E major for the first half and that's pretty tough. Anyway this was a first attempt your comments are very helpful.

Cheers

Mike

Ah, I was wondering what the chords were and now I know! They certainly are a strange bunch but sound great.

Cheers,
Alun
