Melvins fans - What do you think of the album "Prick"

Personally, I love it. It's such an interesting collection of sound experiments. I could see how some fans of the "Melvins sound" might not be interested, but they have always been out there, this is them pushing it to the extremes.

I went into this album expecting weird, but Melvins have tricked me in the past. My first Melvins album was Houdini, which is rather traditional: My second Colossus of Destiny. A 60 minute live noise performance. I didn't care for noise at the time, so I was annoyed: I sold it. I've since the acquired a taste, I'll have to give it a shot again.

Prick is so diverse though, some traditional Melvins-esque jams. Larry, Rickets... but mostly strange ambient stuff/weird jams/and of course, a few moments of pure digital silence.

Perhaps one of my favorite Melvins albums.

Completely different than those two albums, it rarely ventures into the rock realm that Houdini and Senile Animal remain in the whole time. Not that there isn't oddness to those two albums...

Melvins are such a great band.

"Prick" was such a great joke. There are a lot of bits on there that I used to put on mix tapes for friends. Funny stuff.

Yeah, I love it. Melvins are one of the bands who really seem like they have always just played what they wanted to play, regardless of any public perception.

My favorite is still Gluey Porch Treatments, though.

Have you ever seen the Melvins screw around in concert, just to piss off the crowd? There was a show a few years ago, that my friend attended, and the crowd was booing, blahblah, while the Melvins were making obnoxious (glorious?) noises. Buzz told them if they didn't quiet down they'd keep it up. And, of course, they did. There's an antagonizing side to them, and that's how I see Prick, as well as a few other releases. They're a practical joke (the releases).

I mean, I could care less, since I love the Melvins, but I do think these releases were not intended for people to love.

Melvins rule! Prick is a very weird record.. sort of a joke. I would not recommend it unless you are a die hard Melvins collector.. I remember when it first came out, I bought it on vinyl and was so excited to hear it .. I was really bummed when I got home and gave it a spin. My favorite Melvins record is still Bullhead. The new record comes out in June.

I should have stated before that I read an interview with Buzz in which he claimed that Prick, Destiny, et al, are not jokes, that they were created with care and consideration. He said they made albums that they would want to listen to. And, I'll concede that the Melvins wouldn't quite be the same without said "joke" (or not) albums.

Yeah one thing you have to take into account, there is a following of noise/experimental bands, Melvins are clearly fans of said genres. I think it's cool that they aren't afraid to be weirder than they already are.

I'll have to get "Prick". "Colossus of Destiny" is actually one of my favorite "zen out" albums ever.

Yes, I'm a noise fan also.

I remember seeing The Melvins/Babes in Toyland way back in the mid nineties. It was a fairly small venue (club) and the sound was killer. The Melvins could make your skull shake and make you like it.
The funny thing is, I later bought the albulm "Prick" and one of my friends that had gone to the show with me asked "Who is snivlem?"
Great albulm, but my favs are Stoner Witch and Ozma.

in my opinion, the melvins can do no wrong. i like all the albums. i don't care too much for the stuff they have done with mike patton, but i don't like mike patton. those are 'special project' records anyway, so i don't count them.
