"Dreadlocks" and "Outside Your Door"
BTW, her bassist is Jon Maron formally of Groove Collective, who's also a mofo of a player.

Is that his name? I've got a video of the "Rock in Rio" concert that had a whole heap of big acts of the time (Billy Idol, INXS, heaps more). NKOTB were dreadful, but this guy's playing blew me away.

Who cares who else Dyson has played with, he is a pretty talented and funky MF. I really wouldn't mind having that gig that he has got.

Fima Ephron has done gigs with Me'shell Ndegeocello, he is one of my favorite bassists...He has played for Screaming Headless Torsos, Jazz Punk. (David Fiuczynski). He is one bad MF too...

MN has great taste in bassists...

Lets write a new song called HonkeySnake Killa and call it even. It’s all good, my friends.

Yes, she is a tasteful, proficient player.

You can see her play live at her website:

Poke around, check out the audio/video.

Take care,

I saw that too. Wasn't that groove at the beginning, David was playing, a muthaf**ka??!! Now that was some 'real' nasty funk!

I have her new cd, and it's really good, the grooves and all that. But I end up not listening much at all...I like the song Earth and that song where Marcus Miller plays his oversized flute on. But I think that a lot of the tracks on the album just float on one or two hooks.
But still, a great album. There aren't any weak grooves on it, maybe to me only some weak songs.

You can listen on her website to a live version of the song Satisfy...I really like that song and her album Bitter. Maybe I don't like her R&B side or something.

Edit: forgot to turn the email notification off.

Meshell Jazzed Up for All-Star Verve Set
Wed Aug 27, 4:34 PM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!

By Dan Ouellette

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Meshell Ndegeocello has assembled a cast of leading jazz artists -- including Cassandra Wilson (news), Kenny Garrett, Jack DeJohnette, Don Byron, Wallace Roney, Neal Evans and Layla Hathaway -- for a new album under the name Papillon.

Ndegeocello plays bass on and is co-producing the set, "Dance of the Infidels," due Jan. 13 from Verve. Bob Power also produced.

Ndegeocello continues to record pop albums for Madonna (news - web sites)'s Maverick label; her next disc, "Comfort Woman," is due Oct. 14.

Verve A&R executive Jason Olaine said the project grew out of a conversation with Ndegeocello in January 2002, while she was participating in the recording of Roy Hargrove's R&B album "The RH Factor: Hard Groove."

"Meshell told me that she'd been wanting to make a jazz album," Olaine said. "She had the idea for Papillon, and she was the driving force for the project. She conceptualized it, produced it, directed traffic and invited friends. It's not a pop record. There are tunes that are 11 to 14 minutes long and feature the players really stretching out and blowing."

Ndegeocello will also be heard in the coming weeks on new albums from the Blind Boys Of Alabama and Basement Jaxx.
