Meshuggah, Destroy Erase Improve

I'd like to comment here on Meshuggah's Destroy Erase Improve album. Now as a whole, and I'm speaking in terms of a progressive rock album, I think I've come to the conclusion that to any progressive player this album is could be considered one of the best of all time. I was pretty dissapointed that it wasn't mentioned in Guitar World's greatest 100 rock albums of all time. IMO, IMO is stressed here, Meshuggah is the most important band in metal today. If you look at the package they have it all; talent and the skill to match, innovation, straight up kick ass songs, really good song writing skills, and they put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen. I just can't get over some of the stuff they come up with and how they put it together. Or how they play half of it!!!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Frederik Thorndendal has completely invented a new style of soloing. And when I think about it the rythym guitars and drums behind some of those solos are usually the hardest parts of the songs. I don't know, they just blow my mind.

Meshuggah are unique. I don't think they are trying to be super technical. I love their approach, very heavy, very angular. Good Stuff!

I watched them last night on Headbangers' Ball. They, along with most of the other bands, except Metallica at San Quenton prison, (with cool but all too brief views of Robert Trujillo on bass) made me realize that at 60, sadly maybe my headbanging days have come to an end. I just couldn't get into the music. I know ten years ago I would have loved Meshuggah's video. These days I need more melody and, oh my gosh, more violins!!!

Actually, their new stuff is a lot slower compared to the old (like Destroy Erase Improve), and it gets kinda boring. But yes, they really are an amazing band. "Future Breed Machine" is easily one of my favorite metal songs of all time.

This is one schweet album. IMO, Meshuggah arent a band that yu can sit down straight away and say HEY this is cool! its gotta grow on you.

Anyway i think its good that they incorporate so many different techniques and elements into the one genre

I dig these guys. I've only heard this D.E.I. album though. The drummer and main rhythm guitarist lock into some very sweet polyrhythmic lines. Thought I think the lead guitar sounds like Holdsworth IMO.
