Metal/Hard Rock Songs That Have FUNK (that groove and make you want to dance)

Sign in to disble this ad
Strange question, but I was listening to WAAF on Friday while I was shoveling my driveway, and Mudshovel by Staind (a band I've always despised because I thought the lead singer whined to much, but this song caught me.) came on and I found myself boppin' about to it while I worked.

It leads me to the question, are there any metal songs off the top of your heads that groove such that they make you want to dance? Let's get a list of tracks going.

P.S. I know Staind isn't really hard metal per se (nu-metal? I hate categorizing music, but hey), but it's hard rock/metal enough for me (any songs you can think of...don't worry about specific metal or hard rock genre).

There's tons. All I can think of right now is Psychostick (which isn't your every day metal to begin with) and I think Nonpoint has some every once in a while.

System of a Down has a song or two like that, too. So do some of these annoying, post-nu-metal-hardcore-pop-whatever bands with their singers that sound like women but in fact are men. I'm talking about bands like Chiodos, which are popular with the kiddies these days.

Infectious Grooves- especially Sarsippius' Ark. Start there, then boogie over to Faith No More.

I love and regularly listen to progressive death metal and black metal. Pantera is fine...it doesn't matter how hard the music is, I just want it to make you want to shake it.

Helmet(I know not really metal but it's heavy and groovy) - anything from "Meantime"
System of a Down - Almost everything they've done. I have a theory that it's possible to do the twist to pretty much anything these guys do.

Mudvayne.
It's Metal, with a lot of complicated tempo changes, and the bassist has a heavy funk style
to his playing. Go and listen to "Nothing To Gein" It's pretty good.

Have you heard of KMFDM? They are a german band labeled as 'industrial' but most of their stuff is heavy, rockish and dancable

No one's mentioned Rage yet? Rage Against The Machine is it for me when it comes to groovy hard rock/metal.

Actually, now that I think of it.... a lot of the songs Metallica covered on Garage, Inc. have a heavy groove to them-- It's Electric, Whiskey in the Jar, Stone Dead Forever, etc.

Ditto Megadeth's Sweating Bullets.
