Metal with slap and pop

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for some Metal with you guessed it, slap and pop. I can't think of many Metal bass players that use this technique and make it sound good. Theres the dude from Unexpect, which sounds bloody awful, Eric Langlois of Cryptopsy who I believe uses it well, and Steve Cloutier of Gorguts. Also, DO NOT RECOMMEND THE GUY FROM MUDVAYNE!

Ooo, I got one. robert trujillo. when he was with infectious grooves, he has a killer slap bass sound. check out their cover of led zepplin's immigrant song. they did an awesome version of that song.

Now I feel really dumb. I completely forgot about Trujillo! I love his bass playing in both Suicidal and the little I've heard from Infectious Grooves. Also their cover of Immigrant Song was crazy, didn't they do the vocal melody on the guitar?

Martin Mendez of Opeth slaps here and there. Check out the song Blackwater Park from the album of the same name.

Most people consider Mudvayne nu metal and not 'true metal' I guess.

Martin Mendez (Opeth) also slaps during parts of "The Grand Conjuration" off of ghost reveries.

Nu-metal... what an ill-defined, oft-erroneously applied, label.

Lord help me, most 'true metal' elitist idiots don't know what 'true metal' is anyways.

Usually only old dudes who listened to Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden or the young kid who thinks he knows what he's talking about after spending too much time on Wiki invoke what is 'true metal'.

Mudvayne to me, is hard rock. The nu-metal stuff is stuff like Korn and pretty repetitive stuff like that.

Metal to me is stuff like Isis, Emperor, Xasthur, Burzum, Necrophagist, Opeth, Behemoth, stuff like that.

Don't feel too bad that you've forgotten about robert trujillo. he is indeed the type of bass player who does slap bass in metal. at least I named a bass player that does slap bass in metal besides ryan martini of mudvayne. and to answer your question, yes infectious grooves did do vocal melodies on guitar when they recorded their cover of led zepplin's immigrant song.

Awesome clip you got there, dude. very industrial metal-like.

I was wondering what type of distortion did you use on that clip? it sounded really cool.

Mendez also slaps in the song Blackwater Park near the end. Sounds really good. He also slaps a tiny bit in Reverie/Harlequin Forest off Ghost Reveries, but it's really quiet.

He's also a great, great, GREAT rythm player. Him And Lopez were such a tight damn rythm section.
