Metallica`s best album.....$5.98 EP ?

Riding in the car today, going through some old CDs, I came across Metallica`s "Garage Days / $5.98 EP" Had not listened to it in years; popped it in. Instantly reminded of why I always thought this was an overlooked gem in Metallica`s catalog - Newstead is brutal ! They sound absolutely amazing with the bass up in the mix; it`s the best mix of any of their stuff. "The Wait" and "Crash Course"....stunning ! Thoughts ?

Actually none of that is THEIR stuff, all are remakes.

Seriously though. Jason brought a musicianship that otherwise would not be there, too bad they erased the bass track in And justice for all.

I often times try to figure out went wrong. They were at their best when playing basic, raw, powerful stuff.

I totally agree with the OP regarding the raw brutality of Garage Days. This cassette was the reason I got into Metallica. That, and a Jump in the Fire single, which, I really wish I still had, and know exactly what I traded it for in 1988.

I think its muck myself. Theres not a track on there I wouldn't rather have the original a thousand times over. Then again, the first four full albums are the only ones I consider the material remotely decent on.

Umm, yeah. I know. It`s like Jason used all of his "mix credits" up on that one album.

I have seen a live Killing Joke "Wait", from around 2003, that blows Metallica`s version away ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoIJmb83Jb4 Killing Joke`s original album version ? Meh.
