Talking Metallica is....B A C K!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I probably should have searched for a thread already on this topic but....I just got Metallicas newest CD and just listened to it ... holy mother of rock THEY ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I first got into the band with the black album.. yes I love load and reload and loved their earlier stuff as well. I was burned badly on their last CD, I think it was some mini LP 'animal within' or some such (not S&M I still need that one actually) and was rather skeptical on their newest offering. But I heard about Truillo swapping bands with Newsted and even though I haven't heard Truillo, considering who he used to play for, I knew he had to be good. And I really liked Newsted too but Ive heard people talk that the bassist swapping was the best thing for both musical groups respectively so that really peaked my interest.

WOW!!!!!!!!! I heard Ride the Lightening/Master of Puppets and Black/ReLoad together on Death Magnetic if that makes any sense. I heard their old sound with a touch of their later polished sound and it was beautiful!!!! Truillo is awesome too!!!!!

THEY ARE BACK!!!!!!!

*ahem* ok freak out over....uhm...carry on.... LOL

Back? I've heard it and I wouldn't go that far. Glad you like it, though.

I guess 'back' might have been the wrong description. The last few things theyve released have been crap IMO....I heard them closer to their early sound with this one. James isn't that interested if he hits the notes perfect, Larz is off in his own little drum world..yea just like the beginning. But this time they got some of the polish from S&M and the load/re CDs in it and its nice. Hehe I was a bit pumped when I made the thread, I was just stunned this album was actually good....

And yea, they should grow their hair back...

I'd say it's their best since the Black Album, and I like it, but I don't think it's in the same league as the Lightning/Puppets/Justice sequence by any stretch. Some tracks have a slightly loose feel, which is cool, and they'll probably sound great live.

I got into Metallica in 1986, but the Load/Re-Load garbage ticked me off so much that I couldn't listen to them for years. So it is cool to be enthusiastic about the new disc.

It's not as good as St. Anger but it still rocks!

I hear ya.

I've resigned myself to the fact that they will never get back to the Lightning/Puppets/Garage/Justice days and I can live with that. A lot of that was fueled by anger, vodka and Heineken and it's hard to be pissed off when you have the kind of money to blow at Armani.
I'll never get over Lars becoming a bigger narcissist than ever before, James trying to be Steve friggin' Perry with his vocals, their guitar tones which sound thin as hell and the whole Napster debacle.

Now Load/Re-Load are 2 of my fav albums by them. I like all their albums except for that mini LP they put out a few years back..that was some kind of nasty for sure. I never got St Anger and I still need to get S&M but what Ive heard on that one I really liked.

Lars was my fav member until that whole napster debacle is right!! I would go to other downloading sites and download Metallica stuff (even though I do have most of their stuff already) just to annoy Lars in some way in my mind. LOL Thats funny I guess.

Funny cause it was the Black Album that got me into the band. But it was a bad thing too cause when I got In Justice For All I didn't like it and I had to put it up for a few months and then relisten to it to like it and appreciate it. The Black Album drew in more fans but it was a jolt to go from that to their earlier stuff. For me at any rate it paid off and I liked both the early stuff and black/load/reload when it was all said and done. Its all good to me.

No, no and no. Well, it's better than St. Anger and maybe even Load/ReLoad (their best songs should've been combined into one actually good album) but compared to 80's albums? No way, NO F***ING WAY. Stupid boring crap if you compare to the old masterpieces. Lars still can't play (this time it's not even fixed), James' guitar tone is utter crap, Kirk's solos suck all the way but best of all - despite all the things left unfixed James' vocals have been heavily autotuned. I mean, WHY?! And yes they really are, I know James doesn't sing or sound like that. Then the bass... No offense but Trujillo looks and sounds like an ape. The bass riff in Cyanide is the worst ever... It's just plain stupid and unnecessary (the second worst thing IMO, still doesn't beat the tapping riff of The Day That Never Comes). Why put bass there alone if there's no cool riff or anything? Every song is also bloated with 2 minutes of repeating the 3 main riffs and other crap. Cut the crap and the album would be around 30 minutes, I would've lived with that. And not to mention that the band and Rick Rubin have ruined the mix by taking part in the loudness war, the stupidest sh*t ever in music.

Still, it has a few almost enjoyable moments. Almost. Mostly the album just sounds like a bad Metallica tribute band of some 16-year kids who barely can play. Maybe I'll just go and listen to Master of Puppets. Sigh.

Metallica will always get ****. I bet that if they released master of puppets right now people would still complain and say that they sold out and they suck

Starscream, you must've missed the huge death magnetic thread X]. You're two months late man, what took ya so long ?
and yes, i totally agree with you.

I got into them in 86 as well and although its not quite that stuff, I do like it. They had an influence on Trivium and now I think Trivium has had an influence on them. And you guys can rip on me all you want to, but I'm 35 and love the Crusade. Still, my dad wants Death Magnetic for Christmas, that must tell you something.

You say that, but when I saw them live, that was the bit that really got the crowd together and got everybody punching the air...

So go figure.

That's from the original Star Wars movie. It's Princess Leia.
