I'd say "it has potential" once they hit the studio - some nice bass riffs, an actual solo, an old-school breakdown... but the "whoa whoa whoa's" have to go-go-go-ah.

I'd mention removing the wah from Kirk's foot, but we all know that's a lost cause by now.

man that's s**t IMO

Metallica gone punk. I can't wait for the blackest black of black into infinity as I slit my wrists album. Emo has to be next.

"woooahhh wooooyooooh wooooooooah"
great lyrical content guys

They should just retire. Seriously, that was freakin' terrible. "Hey I know let's ape the Misfits" - crap.

Not their best work, but I'm curious to hear what a studio version would sound like.

Metallica should've died young so they'd be held as the "kings of metal" instead of that crappy misfits wannabe rehash of nothing.

I mean, look at nirvana, and imagine what people would think if they were still around and kurt never died? then again all IMO

If you have a drummer like Lars... it's going to bog everything down.

Yeah, I thought it was all good until Jason left. Jason was their last and final spark to the band. Cliff of course being the biggest, but I think Jason was the one that carried them on, and now since he left, it has REALLY gone down hill. I don't listen to anything St. Anger or up now with this new whatever you wanna call it garb.

I'm the exact same way, with each bassist they've gone further and further downhill, it's very sad...

I’m surprised so many people bash the other new song. I guess the bashers have not heard an album called Kill em All. There was a very heavy punk influence on that record. Songs like Motorbreath, Hit the lights, and Phantom Lord sound very similar to the other new song.

I guess many people will bash the new Metallica album no matter what it sounds like.

Uhm, no. They have punk influence for sure... but that's because thrash is like fast hardcore punk stuff. This new tune is pop punk garbage.

I'm still rooting for Metallica. Metallica was the 3rd rock band I ever got into. It was AC/DC, then Megadeth, then Metallica. I always liked Megadeth more, but I loved Metallica. I'd love to hear them make a good album (it's been a long time since they have). But if this is what they are up to, I agree that they should have hung it up a while ago.

Do you consider there cover versions of songs like Last Caress and So What pop rock as well? This song has that fast upbeat tempo like many of there songs from there debut album, and sounds nothing like pop punk bands like Green Day, or Offspring. I do agree that Whoaa hhaa chorus is not the best thing they ever done, but the rest of the song rocks.

Last Caress... yes, I consider that pop punk. Maybe not so much So What. I think the Misfits were a poppy band a lot of the time. But this new metallica song would fit on the latest Offspring album no problem.

I agree. I really don't think it's Trujillo. He's pretty flippin' awesome. Lars is definately the weakest link... GOOD-BYE!

Yep, Rob is an awesome bassist. I love his work with ST and Infectious Grooves. Lars, I don't really love his anything. Even when he was "good" he wasn't great.

Side note: The new song isn't terrible on the 4th listen. But, it's stupid. I've been diggin' some "stupid" stuff lately. I don't know what I mean by that. But the new tune... not too bad. Poppy garbage, but hey, if that's what they want to do, cool beans.
