I heard King Diamond is up for one too, but it's around 20 years too late.

Never surprised by a Metallica nod though.

Edit: I do like the cover though.

So is Rush, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Guess you've gotta be old to be grammy nominated, at least for instrumentals.

When Metallica was the best heavy metal band on Earth and true pioneers of the genre, they lost the Grammy for best heavy metal album to Jethro Tull, a band that had been around for decades and wasn't really metal nor particularly heavy.

Now that Metallica has been around for decades and has apparently forgotten how to even play their instruments properly, they could win a Grammy.

What other deserving band would have to be screwed out of it in order for Metallica to recieve the Grammy, now?

The Grammys are a joke. It's been proven time and time again.

I would love to see any of your favorite bands lose a Grammy to Metallica.

They've been around long enough, and made enough good music to prove themselves and they deserve to win.

Nope the best would be Sold-outica

Honestly I'm a big Metallica fan but really for their old stuff, they're newer stuff is kind of meh. Although I did like some of Ectasy of Gold, even though the starting guitar sounded sterile and kind of clumsy

+1,000,000

Why do people have to be nasty?

So they sold out, does that make them unworthy of some lame award?

I don't think much of the Grammy's but these guys deserve to win, especially since they got screwed out of their last one.

If they deserve an award for different songs/albums fine, but they don't deserve much of anything for this particular song. It sounds completely wrong to me on distorted guitar, loses all of its emotion. Seeing as the grammy is an award for this particular song, then all those saying the deserve it for all their past work need to get their heads out of their asses; this ain't about that.

I remember watching that show and wondering what the hell Jethro Tull were doing in a heavy metal category. Don't get me wrong, JT is my all-time favorite band and I loved Crest of a Knave, but winning a heavy metal grammy with it was too much even for a die-hard fan like me. Metallica really should have won that award, but I don't think they should win one now because they lost that one. No one should win an award for a crap song because they lost an album award 20 years ago. Not that I'm saying this song is crap (I have no opinion on the song - didn't listen to it), just trying to make a point. Each song/album should be judged on its own merit.

Honestly, I had no idea they were still around...

I don't pay much attention to them anymore... After the black album, I stopped listening...

I think they deserved to win before, but that is what happens sometimes... You lose what you should have won...

Honestly, if they win now, after selling out like they did, they are just tarnishing the award the same way it was tarnished when they lost...

Good Luck...

Because there are those of us who found the Cliff-era Metallica to be flat out amazing who didn't get the joke when the later stuff came out. More power to you guys if you find something good about it, and I realize that it's their creative vision (or lack thereof), but I reserve the right to be somewhat insulted and angry at what I percieve as them resting on their laurels and writing boring music for the sake of making money. Especially after seeing what Mustaine has been up to lately.

I didn't have such a problem with them "selling out" before seeing Some Kind of Monster and finding out just how much they love the dough and just how badly Newsted was treated. And while I don't think it's very mature to jump into a Metallica thread and spoil everyone's rosy glow, I definitely share the feelings expressed by others on the topic.
