I was just going to say that about Dr John records.
In The Right Place is definitely The Meters, probably Gumbo too and maybe Desatively Bonaroo.
There all great records, especially In The Right Place.
As for The Meters' oen LPs; it's hard to go wrong, they all have great stuff on if you listen for it. I have to agree tho that they got weaker after Rejuvenation; but there are still some real gems in the later LPs, check out Love Slip Upon Ya
from Fire On The Bayou and Doodle-Loop from Trick Bag.
All the other classic stuff has already been mentioned earlier. |

Nicky Daniels AND Tony Hall on Basses | +100 - I saw them live and they blew me away. Two bass masters working together and slaying it, every tune was absolutely killing. |

| | | | "Rejuvenation" is their pinnacle, IMO. I agree that they went downhill after that.
Of course, the earlier, all-instrumental stuff is great. They were like a looser, more raw, New Orleans version of Booker T & the MGs then. "Rejuvenation", to me, keeps the New Orleans flavor, but adds some Sly and James Brown influences. |

I like "Rejuvenation" as a single studio disc.
George Porter Jr records and shares Meters shows (as do others)... live is where it's at!
The singer they brought in was Art Neville's kin Cyril Neville.

I love dumpstaphunk. These guys are so ridiculous tight as a rhythm section it's insane. Tony Hall is one of the best players I've ever seen. The rhythm section of dumpstaphunk toured and played with Trey Anastasio. This was the first time I ever heard of them. I immediately got into them after the show where I saw Tony Hall playing.
Still back on topic. There's a lot of great Meters albums, but where they really shine is live. There's a couple of cool live releases (Live on Queen Mary) that are really cool too. Lately, I've been really getting into their little albums like Cabbage Alley. But if you want a great place to start get the double disc album 'Funky Miracle', it's a the best compilation IMO. |

There all great records, especially In The Right Place. | Gumbo was Jimmy Calhoun on bass, George is on the other two though.
