Metheny - One Quite Night

I'm slipping this one into Recordings rather than Misc. since he plays a baritone guitar...

Has anyone else heard this CD? It's totally amazing. Just Pat Metheny playing really cool tunes on his baritone guitar. I read the CD liner notes where it explained about the tuning but I still don't quite get it. He has described it as a low Nashville tuning and from the notes it appears that the middle strings are tuned an octave up from usual. EAdgBE. All of this of course an octave lower than your usual geetar. Anyone familiar with this?

Check out the clips at the website:

Really beautiful playing and great tunes. Very nice to just sit back and listen to.

Recommended.

I know what Nashville tuning is, but that's not an ordinary Nashville tuning. Also, I thought baritone guitars ran from B to B?

Christopher - you're probably right, but I don't have the CD case in front of me, and having checked on the website it doesn't elaborate on what the actual tuning was. (Funny - it does advertise the "liner notes").

What's your take on Nashville tuning?

The sound is really nice on these tracks though. Very open.

Nashville tuning is intended to give chicken pickers lots of open-string options when doing fast runs. It basically transfers the hard work from the left hand to the right.
