I'm mainly interested in the movie because Alex Al is the bass player in the band.
Can you actually see him doing his thing in the movie or is the band sort of invisible?

You get a few glimpses of him, and he's interviewed for about 15 seconds.
But the movie is still worth seeing, IMO, just to watch and hear Michael Jackson. I enjoyed him before, but now I'm convinced that he's one of the true greats.
See it in a theater. Don't wait to watch it on a small screen.
(Also, you *do* get to see Jackson interact quite a bit with the band-- discussing arrangements, cues, different feels, etc., and it's fascinating. Just not a lot with Alex Al.)
