Michael Jackson - Off The Wall

I can't stop listening to this album!! It's AWESOME. Great bass (Louis Johnson, Bobby Watson) and the grooves are so tight. Songs by McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and Rod Temperton (from Heatwave). Qunicy Jones does a stellar job with Production. This is a 5 star album no doubt.

Share your thoughts on this album.

Love this. This is one of the last pop albums before musicians started getting replaced by synthesizers. It's full of real horn players, several guitarists, and a host of auxilliay percussionists--all under the masterful direction of Quincy Jones. Sweet.

From start to finish, one of the greatest albums in the world of popular music. It's a masterpiece.

Something that surprised me was the fact that a lot of the string arrangements and orchestration heard on the "OTW" and "Thriller" wasn't all Quincy. Michael laid those ideas down on the demo tapes he made before recording the masters for the albums.

It's such a shame MJ went down the road he chose to travel - he was an incredible talent.

+1. I was just about to post the same thing -- sounds more like a real band as opposed to Thriller's wall of synths.

I listened to this album a while back, and it struck me how much it reminds me of Jamiroquai. (Or more accurately, vice versa, since "Off The Wall" came first). Does anyone else hear this? I remember when "Virtual Insanity" was a hit how much people were saying it was like Stevie Wonder, but I think I hear a lot more of MJ in their music than Stevie.

One of my all time favorite funk albums. The Jacksons album 'Destiny' released the year before also had some killer grooves. 70's funk sure was special!

Off The Wall & Destiny are great!
...still!

And not believing it's been close to 30 years.

Man, this album never leaves my cd player.
It's one of the best albums ever, IMO.

Totally restarted Micheal's career.

If it's got Quincy's name on it, you KNOW the mofo's gonna groove!! The guy's the ****!

Good observation. I hadn't made that connection but I think you're absolutely right.

This is the only Michael Jackson album that is still in my collection, not counting a Jackson 5 best of. Great grooves.

And who can forget this low-budget gem of a video?

When my wife and I met, we both had this album. I knew she was the one. Some killer grooves on this one!

I remember having Off The Wall on LP was I was 12, and really liking it. Forgot about it for 25 years or so, and then my wife bought the CD. I don't think I realized all those years ago how great the bass playing is on that album. It's on my iPod now.
