To record a jamming session using a tape recorder, is it always mono or stereo recording better?

Hmmm gonna sound bad no matter what ya do! Is it for a band recording for practice reasons? If you r using a p.a then at least go buy a mini disc recorder!

yup
but mono is better. stereo recording can be tricky in terms of phase cancellation. With a cheapie like that just go mono.
