The fact that he got an agressive tone live doesnt mean that he used a Sansamp. There are about 1,000,000,000 ways to get an overdriven, agressive tone. |

Am I noticing a pattern, or is it just me?

It's combination of mic and DI into the Avalon VT-737SP (same unit heard in the link above, so check that out). Amp is a newer SVT. Cab is 8x10. Warwick bass, whatever he normally uses.
The "Sans Amp" sound you hear is actually the Amp Farm plug-in for Pro Tools.
I'm told the kick sample is a part of the tone, which is really always true IMO as I said above, and in this case that kick tone is a combination of the kick mic'd with a custom-made speaker mic (by which I mean a 10" speaker is used to transfer the sound pressure for the kick against the speaker cone into signals, like a giant mic diaphragm ... I can take a pic if anyone wants), with standard Bob Rock made kick samples "Jazz Kick" and "Rock Kick" blended and EQ'd
Other than that, there's the SSL strip pre and the usual bit of compression.
All that should run you about $20ooo and make for a very awkward rig. | He uses Spectors. However, I saw something where he mentioned he still has his Tobias, his Warwick Streamer, his Lakland, and his Dingwall. However, he says he uses the Spector for agressive stuff, so therefore I guessed he used it on this track as it is agressive. Are you positive he uses an SVT? If he does I can dial up that tone on the Sansamp and see how I sound. |

"Wow! Thanks Smash!"
...or something to that effect would be kind of appropriate, don't you think??? |

(I thought I was GASed out... I really want to add an Avalon U5 into my setup again!!! Luckily they are about 7 or 8 times cheaper then the full pre / compressor version you used!!! ) |

This is from Dan Lakin of Lakland basses, so I think he has some idea what he's talking about. As for the recording of the track in question, my brother's band was recording in the same studio at the same time they were tracking this CD, and the basses Mike used were pretty much all Spectors. |
