Modern Fusion Suggestions for someone with picky tastes

I'm digging a lot of stuff like Alain Caron (I have the album 5), and I found that video of Jojo Mayer and Nerve from the Youtube finds: actually, that's how I found about Alain as well, here's the vids that got me interested:

Jojo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUsUljsDBg8
Alain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITQd2NtbOKA

Not even sure if this is fusion or whatever, but I like it. It's more about solid grooves with floaty keys on top. But it's not exactly techno.

Before someone suggests it, I checked out Alain's old band Uzeb... impressive, but not what I'm looking for right now.

Similar artists?

P.S. Roli Mosimann, he's playing "Sound and effects" anyone have a clue what kind of rig that is? I mean, it's pretty awesome, I'd love to be the guy who plays "Sound" in a band.

Hey Matt - I wouldn't really consider them fusion, but you owe it to yourself to check out a band called TheNewDeal (www.thenewdeal.ca/). Bass/Drums/Keys and that bassist has a bigger pedalboard than any guitarist I've ever seen.

If you liked Jojo with Nerve you'll like them for sure. I'd recommend either their self titled LP or the 'Live in NYC' double disc to get started, then you can check out their other stuff if you like it. I haven't seen much of them on Youtube, unfortunately.

That's the thing, I don't know if what I'm looking for is fusion per se, but that's the closest term I can come up with. Thanks a lot, big pedalboards usually = a band I like

Well it's a hard genre to name - TND on their website calls themselves "live.progressive.breakbeat.house" and admits it's not really a complete name. As you probably noticed, there's 3 tracks to choose from on their website playing in the sidebar, but they are loops and don't really get into their improvisational nature.

I found a live concert from back in 2000 - go here and click on "Play entire show" near the middle of the screen - 46:53 of awesome improv. Of course that's just the beginning with these guys - I suggest you look up their discs if you like that.

I'll keep digging for this stuff too. My drummer knows some more - he introduced me to JoJo Mayer/Nerve after finding out I was a fan of that style.
