Modern rock song driven by bassline?

Sign in to disble this ad
I looked through my library of modern rock music....and noticed that other than "Longview" by Green Day and "Time Is Running Is Out/Hysteria" by Muse, I don't have too many contemporary rock songs that are driven entirely by the bass during huge chunks of the song....distinctive bassline and all.

Could someone suggest a few for me to look for?

Lots of Muse, and lots of Kings of Leon, especially The Because of the Times album.

Not technical wizardry, but several songs by the Killers including "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine", "Midnight Show", and "When You Were Young" are heavily bass driven.

...a lot of ska punk bands are driven by bass even though they aren't the main melodies. reel big fish - sell out comes to mind.

You should check out I Mother Earth. Not all of their songs bass driven, but overall bass plays a large part in their songs. Checkout the albums Scenery and Fish and Quicksilver Meat Dream.

One that stands out for me, L'Arc~en~Ciel "Stay Away"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plfrjkfMZcY

The band, and bassist, that made me pick up a bass.

As Tall As Lions is a band that I've been getting into a lot lately. I don't know if I would say that the songs are driven by the bass, but the grooves are to die for. Seriously.
