I can't explain this legend. If you looked up the word "Deep" in a dictionary, this video will probably come up as the definition.

It's Hank Ballard, I'm 56 and this guy is 3 years younger than my father. So he was around 56 when they filmed this.

BTW the bass is dynomite!

It was produced by James Brown. Check out the intro. James introduces him.....

I found a double album years ago with this on it, all songs from the same era produced by JB for his People record label, with different singers. Very high quality through and through and some all-time top groovers and party songs.

Thanks for the link, great clip!

I'll assume it's JB's band doing the backing? It just sounds so familiar.

The track that I posted came from disc number 2 of a 3 disc set titled James Brown's Funky People. I have it ripped and the actual discs are in a box somewhere. I'll try to confirm but you are probably right about the JB's backing Hank...

Yup, it's the JBs unmistakeable sound.

Anyone wanting to hear some more great but lesser known funk should check out the stuff they did solo, much looser and jazzier feel than the work they did with the Godfather, but still very much the JBs. They are available on a few compilation CDs, made up of singles like Breakin' Bread, etc.
