More song critiques, please...

Hey guys,

Just finished recording all the tracks for a friend's CD. He did all the vocals, all the guitars, and all the 'boards. He had a studio drummer write and record the drums, and I wrote / recorded the bass parts.

These are rough mixes. We begin mixing down few weeks from now, so please excuse the poor levels, eq, etc... I'd just like you to critique the songs, and how my parts fit the song. Keep in mind, these songs aren't my creation, and it was my job as the bassist to write and lay down the parts to serve the song, not reinvent his wheel.

That being said, I sincerely would like your feedback on these. Thanks!

Thumbs up listener_1

I liked the 1st cut better and you are right that the mixes are rough. So be it, the bass is the bass,
no problemo... The drums not being recorded with the rest of the tracks needs to be adjusted. The material is good however, esp. cut #1.............................

Song # 2 - Nice fill bringing in the lyrics. It sounds like you are playing exactly what needs to be played in that song.Nice and even, and tight with the drums.

Song # 1 - I'll have to listen to that again, after I go get my good listening ears on. Wink wink, nudge, nudge, etc.

Ok,back.

Song # 1 Once again,I think you are playing exactly whet needed to be played for this song.I'm sure the singer/guitarist/cat was very pleased with your work.

Is this all overdubs or did you guys track the rhythm section together?

All the tracks were recorded separately, but in an effed up order. Originally, the main cat wanted to use a drum machine, despite mine and the engineer's attempts to sway him. He's the one footing the bill, so we couldn't argue. Soooo, it was drum machine tracks, then my tracks, etc. recorded. The "normal" order of tracking. Well, after everything was completed he had a change of heart (the friggin' dummy!), and agreed to bring a cat in to do the drums. So obviously I had to record all my parts over. He made some changes to the rhythm guitars and keys, but for the most part, all those original tracks remained. So essentially, it was recorded in this order: Rhythm guitars, keyboards, drums, bass, lead guitars, vocals.

5String,

Here's a link to a thread I started a while back of another song we did, but this one was with the damn drum machine. Parts were recorded in the proper order with that track...

Critique my never-before-heard track I recorded, please

That song (along with all the others) had my parts redone after the drum machine was tossed in the trash, where it belongs!

I think you do a very good job providing support for the songs, both of them. I don't hear anything fancy or anything that would make my jaw drop, but I did hear you playing a nice, tight, supporting bass, and that's always good.
