Most Memorable Rock/Pop Bass Line/Riff Ever???

Sign in to disble this ad
Since "bass line/riff" could refer to any genre of music from any era, I ask that you keep your replies within the "bass guitar" era (circa 1950 on...)

My vote:

"Another One Bites the Dust" - Queen 1980

Here we go again. My vote would either be that one, Queen's "Under Pressure," or Rick James' "Superfreak" because those three were not only huge songs, but they were all sampled in later huge pop songs. But really, there's tons of really, really memorable bass riffs.

Agree with AOBTD, and I want to add:

- Pink Floyd's "Money"
- Led Zeppelin's "Dazed And Confused"

Norman Whitfield's Rose Royce was the band that recorded that song. "Yo-Yo", from the same soundtrack album, has a solo bass riff which is extremely memorable... at least in my country since that tune was used in a very popular and long-running sitcom as the opening theme.

You first posted Chic's "Good Times". That line inspired Queen's John Deacon to create his "Another One Bites The Dust".

"Good Times" is a pop song. Isn't it?

Down in the Tube Station at Midnight by the Jam also known 'that jam song with the bass bit' lol

Don't want to come over as a Jam obsessive but Town Called Malice is definatley worth a mention too, particularly for us english, it is pretty much a rip of Cant Hurry Love though
