Pfft, what a hack Who ever thought you could hear such a great version of Footprints with just a bass and MIDI drums?

Man, I wish he'd put out more stuff to listen to- the only way to hear any recent music of his is to either be at a show or hope someone puts something on YouTube.

I saw a Matt Garrison vid on the tube where he talks about his axe and how he tunes his 5 from E > C. Then he turned a knob and it dropped to a low B. Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7tIfOHruZA
Can someone tell me what's going on. Is it the synth electronically dropping him or does he have a reeeeally custom Mike Pope pre installed ? Good chops fer a young fella lol
Does Mike Pope market onboard pre amps or must you buy Fodera to get his circuit ?

After looking at that vid again I see it's the synth dropping, you can hear it losing its track somewhat.

That's just a Hipshot Xtender key- you put one on your E string and you can drop it anywhere from a few cents all the way down to a low B or possibly a little lower if your headstock has enough room. They've been around for over 20 years. You tune it with a little thumbscrew on the back. Michael Manring has one on each string of some of his basses- check out some of his videos to see what multiple Xtenders can do. No preamp can change your pitch- you'd need a harmonizer/pitch shifter for that.

Thanks Bryan, I missed seeing him flip the hipshot and when I heard the note and the synth losing its track I thought it was entirely electronic.

I saw Matt years ago in the Fodera booth at NAMM just noodling - lordy lordy... Kid has chops.

Later that day I saw Mike Manring doing a clinic in the Zon booth... Holy cow! Let me tell you, the NAMM show is NOT a place that is good for a player's self esteem!

Yep, that is some high quality playing, not that he ever needs approval form my hack ears.

The kid and young guy comments are funny because I think he's almost 40. Monster player and a great influence.
