MOTU 4Pre Experience?

Anyone here using a MOTU 4Pre for home recording? I could use some tips...

I'm using Cubase Artist 6.5 and my Aggy TH DI (until my Avalon comes in next week).

This is a more complicated unit than I'm used to and I've managed to get to the point where I can set up a track and record, but monitor in the phones while I'm playing I have to tick one box in Cubase and then unlick it to listen to playback... Maybe this is more of a Cubase issue?

Anyhow, if anyone has basic set up tips to get to the point where it's plug and play I'd really appreciate it. This is definitely a more complicated set up than when I had a Mac and used a Firewire Solo and Garage Band...
