My 14 year old son playing Cream

Sign in to disble this ad
here is a video of my 14 year old son playing Cream. His name is Davy. the song is "I'm so Glad" by Cream off of their "Goodbye" album.

Listen to as much as you care to (it is, after all 9 minutes long--I suggest moving the slider to about 1:30 minutes and going from there-- that is where the action really begins) and tell me what you think.

Although I turned the balance so the bass in the song was cut out, the bass Player is Jack Bruce, who played remarkably like Davy in the song. (better! but hey, he was nearly 30 years old when he did it!)

This is also a FRETLESS bass. The reason it looks like it has frets are the fretlines on the neck. It was the first fretless I got him, and I thought it would be helpful to have the lines as a reference. Obviously, he has moved beyond that now. You will notice it is all black, I put a black bridge on it and a black Moses fretless neck and black pickguard and tuning keys. What started life as a Fender Jazz "geddy Lee" model is now the TALLEYCASTER which you see before you.

anyway, thank you, and I hope to get your feedback.

/s/ Dave

Sounds great for a 14 year old, and on a fretless at that. Much better than me at that age, considering that was the year I first picked up bass. The intonation and timing were a little troublesome at times, but considering his age, it really is impressive, and will only get better with experience. I'd say he's got serious potential.

Cool bass too, btw. What kind is it?

RFORD04-

thanks very much.

the bass started life as a Fender Jazz "Geddy Lee".

as I said, i put on a black pickguard and black badass bridge and tuning keys.

the centerpiece of my mods was the addition of a black Moses fretless neck. he absolutely loves the neck and says it is his favorite bass to play.

since our last name is Talley, we call it the Talleycaster.

Why would you take the best part off the geddy lee jazz the neck off the bass? The neck is the only reason I want the geddy lee jazz.

spaz21387-

well, have you ever played a moses neck? i did that because it was fretless. but play a moses neck and then tell me it is not the smoothest, best neck you ever played.

anyway, i didn't throw the Geddy neck away. I ordered a fender jazz body off of ebay and put the Geddy neck on it. he still plays that. absolutely loves it too. you are right, the geddy neck is awesome, but i like the geddy lee also because of the sound.

Tuep- thank you

/s/ Dave

As a retired children's protective services worker, I never got to say this very often, but somebody's parents are doing a very good job!! First for providing for him to play music and also for implanting impeccable taste in this young man!

orangeclawhamme,

aw shucks....

btw, did you see the t shirt he was wearing-- The Who!
long live the immortal John Entwhistle (or at least long live his memory since he is no longer with us) - you should hear Davy play "The Real Me"
