Thumbs up My band Relocator: Debut feat. Derek Sherinian OUT NOW! CD pre-order, mp3 downloads

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone,

it's been a bit quiet since our big announcement in October, but thankfully
the long wait is now over - the Relocator debut album is done and it's OUT!

We won't have the physical CDs in our hands for another two weeks or so,
but if you want to hear the album now, you don't have to wait until then!
We are now offering high-quality mp3s of the full album (complemented by
the CD booklet in PDF format so you're not missing out on the liner notes).
We have also started taking CD pre-orders and the cool thing is: If you
pre-order the CD, you can download the mp3s and start listening right away!

The album is now available here:
http://www.relocator-project.com

Here's the cover and the tracklisting:

1. Red Vibes (6:13)
2. Biosphere (8:00)
3. Relocator (5:24)
4. Proxima (6:16)
5. Aavishkar (10:30)
6. 13 Reasons (6:31)
7. Urban Blue (6:33)
8. The Alchemist (11:32)

Total playing time: 60:59

Stefan Artwin: guitars, programming
Michael Pruchnicki: bass, fretless bass
Frank Tinge: drums, percussion
Bartek Strycharski: electric violin

Special guest:
Derek Sherinian: all keyboards

You can listen to two full tracks on our MySpace page:
http://www.myspace.com/relocatorproject
We will upload a new track every day until the end
of the week, so keep checking back and listening.

Note: We had to split one song into two parts due to the MySpace limits.
On the album it is of course presented as one track without interruption.

You can order our album and read a bit more about us here:
http://www.relocator-project.com

Let me answer some frequently asked questions about the album right away:

Q: Does Derek Sherinian really play on this album?
A: Yes.

Q: But it's probably just a guest solo or something, right?
A: No, Derek recorded all the keyboard parts for all eight tracks.

Q: Is there violin on all tracks?
A: No, only three of the eight tracks feature our violinist.

Q: When do the vocals start?
A: Never. It's an all-instrumental album!

Q: How much is shipping to my country?
A: Shipping is included in the flat-rate CD price of 15 Euro.

Q: I hate the RIAA. Can I still buy your CD?
A: Yes. This is a 100% independent production and every penny made goes directly to the artists!

Q: I hate PayPal. Can I order your CD somewhere else?
A: Not at the moment, but this will change once we get the CDs from the pressing plant.

Q: When will my CD ship?
A: We expect to start shipping CDs around Christmas. Keep checking our website for updates!

Q: I just ordered the CD/mp3s. How can I download the mp3s?
A: You will get an e-mail with a download link. It might take a while before it is sent.

Q: The MySpace audio quality sucks. Can I download a full track in decent quality somewhere?
A: It's not Christmas yet! Please be patient.

Q: I can't find any reviews of your album. Why is that?
A: It's simple: We didn't delay the release for people to prepare their reviews like
record companies usually do. Only very few people have heard it before today.

Q: Your album rocks! Can I review it?
A: Yes, please do that. It would be very helpful.

Q: Your album sucks! Can I review it?
A: No, all negative reviews are embargoed until December 2034. :P

Q: How come I've never heard of you guys before?
A: Duh - it's our debut album!

I'll gladly answer any other questions you might have!

We just uploaded a new track to our MySpace page. It's the title track of the album. This is our most straight-forward track, kind of our "single", if there can be such a thing on an instrumental prog album.

Enjoy!

And once again our entire playlist on MySpace has changed since my last post. Check it out!

By the way, for everyone who missed some of the earlier tracks,
three of us will be guests on www.dementiaradio.com tomorrow,
Tuesday Dec. 15, starting at noon EST (that is 18:00 in Central
European Time). We'll play our entire album and lots of our
personal prog/fusion favorites, so tune in - it should be fun!

Short update: It looks like we'll get the CDs on December 30th. Of course we'll ship the pre-orders the same day.

Bad news...

The final Relocator CDs arrived from the pressing plant today just as scheduled. And yet we can't ship them yet - unfortunately the layout of the CD booklet is totally messed up as you can see in the comparison image below.

How did this happen? We have no idea at this point. We are still waiting for an explanation from the pressing plant and a solution for this unfortunate situation or some kind of schedule for replacements. At least the CDs themselves seem to be fine...

We are sorry for this delay and we'll keep you updated. Thanks for your patience!

It's a bit hard to believe after all the delays, but our debut CD is finally available -
today the corrected batch arrived and we've already shipped all the pre-orders
as well as the five CDs for those who won our "guess who" competition in 2008!

For now the CDs are available only directly via our website:
http://www.relocator-project.com

And our "order the CD, get MP3s right away" offer for the impatient still stands!

If you're still on the fence, you can check out the full album on our MySpace page:
http://www.myspace.com/relocatorproject

Thanks for listening!

PS: It would be cool if someone could change the thread topic to something like
Relocator debut feat. Derek Sherinian - Update: CD now available!

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

just letting you know that our album is now also available from CDBaby.
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/relocator

This is quite a bit quicker and cheaper than buying directly from us if you live in the USA or Canada.

Just letting you know that our album is now available from
one of the premier web stores for guitar and instrumental
music, Guitar Nine Records:
http://www.guitar9.com/relocator.html

I imagine quite a few people here are loyal customers.

What are the songs that you are most proud of bass wise?

Cool question!

I am most proud of two: Urban Blue in particular for its solo section that evolved from a monotonous repeated vamp with just the necessary chord changes to a section with very playful bass and drums underneath the (IMHO fantastic) synth and guitar solos.

And Aavishkar for the fretless stuff - I only play fretless on about the second half of this track and during the finale of The Alchemist as it's a pretty new instrument for me. In Aavishkar I'm really proud of the 16th note groove (inspired by Cynic/Gordian Knot bassist Sean Malone's Jaco'esque playing) that is first introduced during the slowly building middle section. It then takes center stage underneath a variation of the song's main theme backed by some percussion and then returns after the following break for a really dense variation of the former section with heavy guitar added before it leads into a very loose section. I'm also very happy with the melodic stuff I play underneath Derek Sherinian's epic synth solo in the finale of the track - sometimes phrasing with the keys, sometimes playing counterpoint, sometimes playing along with the guitar, sometimes playing off the guitar part - developing these things was a lot of fun for me.

But there is a lot of bass stuff that I'm very happy with. Like the more playful, melodic stuff underneath the guitar solos in Biosphere and Relocator...

Guess my call for help tracking down some prog-interested magazines and radio stations sunk like a stone here. But I won't let that get me down, cause I got some cool news - the subject could now be extended to "available in Japan, too!"

Check this out:
http://marquee.co.jp/world_disque/d.w.frameset.html

Since most people here can't read that page (or even display it properly), here's the story: Marquee Inc. is a big Japanese label
and their import store World Disque has picked up our album. And they're even calling it a "masterpiece" in their description!

This is really quite something for us and of course we're extremely proud!

I can't believe that this album hasn't gotten more recognition on here. Come on guys, check it out! It's not every day you get a Talkbasser's album with Derek Sherinian on it.

Yeah, with 568 views one should think there'd be comments from more than just three people, haha!

Oh well, it's only been half a year since my original post, guess some things just take time!
