My Band's first recording. Stinkfoot - Smile

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I don't post much around talkbass but it's in my top 5 websites that I fire up everyday.

Anyway, I have learned so much from everyone around here that I thought I would put this song out there for criticism. We are currently putting the final touches on our second song.

Here's our myspace page :
http://myspace.com/stinkfootband

If you aren't into myspace it's on our website under "Listen" :
http://stinkfootmusic.com

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers!

I added our second song last night as soon as I got home from the producer/engineers house with it. I would love to hear some feedback.

song was ok, but too long. Maybe it just sounded too long because I just wanted that guitar picking to end but it just keeps going and going...

Also the name sucks. I would rather quit a band than walk on a stage and say, "hi, we are stinkfoot..."

Yes I'm an ass, but you wanted feedback.

Glad to hear any feedback.

The band name is something that we don't want to change. I get the reaction though.

Was the guitar picking too boring throughout? Or, just at the end?

hey dukaruk, I meant throughout the song. Like the main verse "riff" I guess. I just listened to it again, and it's not so bad after all. I think I was just in a bad mood yesterday. sorry.

I really like the vocals, at times they kinda remind me of maynard. It's got a really toolish sound to it i think.

Sounds good.

The song Smile is awesome, intro is solid and I enjoyed the bass. Just not really digging the song Stronger though.

Most of the time when somebody says listen to my band, it usually is not that great. I have to say I was impressed with what I heard. Not sure why Poor Tom was being so negative. Your drummer is sweet and the vocals are solid, bassplaying and guitar work was good too, and it sounds better then 98% of the garbage out there right now. I'm not into modern stuff too much, but I liked the sound of your group a lot! Great Job!

The music is very good. I really like the singers voice/ tone.

The band name is OK, but right away I thought you guys would be a Zappa Influenced band, so when I first heard you, I was kind of dissapointed that the music was not crazy or weird.

I know it seems crazy that we didn't know about Zappa's song before we named our band. I walked in to a bass lesson and we were discussing the band name and he said : "fans of zappa?" And, i was genuinely confused until i looked it up later.

We have talked about covering his song but don't think it fits very well. Maybe we could arrange it differently... I'll have to think about that.

I guess Zappa is a different generation now. I don't see the song fitting with your style, unless used as a live only novelty.
