Give us a listen, tell me what you think. Also, let me know how I did on my lines. I'm curious what other bassists think about my way of constructing bass lines. I like to incorporate a lot of melody in my lines. I think it makes the song sound a little richer and fuller.

I really like Bright Shiny Morning and Island. Your bass sounds really punchy on Bright Shiny Morning

Best wishes to you and your band,
Iván

Thanks man. I believe I used my old Valenti J5 on both of those songs. AT first, the bass was way down in the mix but the producer wanted it up during the final mix down since he said the bass is what drove those 2 songs, especially on Island. Kind of made me feel good when he said that.

This band has a really Dire Straits feel to it. I like it, keep up the good work!

Wow, glad you liked it. I've heard Tom Petty and Bob Dylan but never Dire Straits. Cool, I'm down with that. Thank you very much.

Your band is a perfect example of the type of band I like to produce. Lots of natural talent and potential. It's just a little rough around the edges, both sound wise and performance wise, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. The drum sound especially makes it sound less professional that it should.

Bass sound good. Could be a little more upfront.

Sometimes the difference between good and great is that little bit of polish.

Nothing against the music, singing or playing. I just feel it isn't quite radio ready. And there's no reason it can't be.

Totally agree with this. This was our first CD and we're on our 3rd drummer. The drummer in most of those songs is actually a percussionist, as it's pretty evident in his playing style, IMO at least. He was using techniques that are cool to use live but not in the studio, stuff like putting a towel on the snare to dampen the snap you get from the head. The engineer was totally against it but he was a pretty bull headed guy, hence the reason he's our "old drummer." I'm the second bassist in this band but I'm on all the songs. We do have enough material for a new CD, which we'll be working on this year. It's better IMO and the song writer/band leader says that since he has better musicians to work with, he feels inspired to write more complicated songs, yet still poppy and mainstream like this stuff.

Thanks for your input. I find it very valuable.

Sounds like a good group.

I agree that it needs polishing. The vocals sound good but the instrumentation is a whole lot of mud, the drums being the worst offender. Less master compression and more track eq, imo.

On your playing, it was good. If you were higher in the mix it would have been great.

Hey man, I will check out your band when I'm at a computer, and not just an iphone. I'm mostly replying so I can keep track of the post! Melodic, bright, and punchy sounds right up my alley. The band I play bass for, We Were Wolves, is hosting 4 of our songs for free download on our ReverbNation page. You can get there through www.wewerewolvestx.com.

Check us out! I'll return the favor!

Wow, just read this. This has been a slow moving thread so I almost forgot about it. Sorry 'bout that.

I just listened to the song "No Head." It reminds me a lot of old Fugazi. "Umami" has an old punk vibe to it but yet slows down to a Soundgarden sound. Very driving stuff. I'd go see you guys if you ever came up to Ohio.

Hey capn! Very nice stuff; I particularly dug your lines on "Island", very melodic, but still groovin'. A lot of guys tend to forget the groove when they go off in melody land, props for keeping one foot in the pocket. Your playing kind of reminds of some of Elvis Costello's stuff, that kind of "Pump It Up", bouncy groove, melodic feel. Btw, tell your guitarist I dig the leads on "Shot to Kill", as well!

If you get a chance and you're into that sort of thing (fusion-y metal), check out my band, ARC, and lemme know what you think!

Dude, listening to your stuff right now and digging the **** out of it! I'm in another band that's a little like this but more straight ahead rock and less progressive, although we do have our moments. You guys have a CD or is this on iTunes? I'd pick it up if you did.
