My bass cover vid(Soul Man)

Sign in to disble this ad
I just wanted to post a vid of me doing a bass cover. I messed up a couple times in the song when I recorded it and I didn't feel like recording it again.

I would like to know what you guys think of my right hand technique. I think its sloppy, and I was just wanting someone elses opinion.

My bass is a Warwick Corvette double buck.
My amp is a GK MB210.

Edit: Uploaded on youtube now. Here is the Youtube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvSqOncMqN0

First off, great cover man! You did a great job, and your tone sounds great I wouldn't hesitate to put it up on YouTube.

As far as right hand technique goes, it's not necessarily sloppy, but you could definitely use your middle finger more often, as it'll help you play more efficiently! Question, is there any particular reason you don't employ that finger as often? Has it been causing you trouble or you just never got into the habit? I did the same thing myself for my first year of playing, and here's what I did to get out of the habit of using one finger...

1) Play some bass lines mainly composed of open strings and nothing to demanding for your left hand, and just watch your right hand as you play. Think constantly about using your index and middle finger consecutively while playing and it will eventually become like second nature.

2) I also had some trouble string skipping with two fingers, and so I would just mute my open strings and again watch my right hand as I practiced playing say, 2 note on the E then one on the D, 2 on the A one on the G, etc. Don't hesitate to make up your own little exercises for string skipping, as you know what will work best for you!

Hopefully what worked well for me will work as well for you! Don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Thanks for comment . As for my right hand I dont really have a reason why I don't use my middle finger much. To be honest I never noticed it until a year ago when I saw a recording of a show my band played at.

I asked myself do I really only use my index finger most the time? So I recorded myself and sure enough I did. I still haven't really tried to correct it yet though.

Edit: I just realized something that seems kinda of odd. When I play root notes I always alternate my fingers, but when it comes to playing more technical stuff I tend to use only 1 finger.

I always think my technique is sloppy too. Then I watch Entwistle. You're doing fine in my book.

LOL! That's so true, whenever I watch Entwistle I'm always in awe over how his technique can be that sloppy yet he still manages to play that fast!

The timing is a bit sloppy, and I think that's coming from not using two finger technique. Get that backbeat embedded in your brain.. think 1and 2and 3and 4uh... I'm being picky, but picky is perfect.
