My brainchild! Constructive Criticism Please! (metal content)

Sordid Circle - March of the Martyrs (No Lyrics)

This song is my brainchild. I Practically wrote every piece of this song (except for the guitar solo itself), which is something I've never done before. I generally let the other members in my band write they're own parts and if things gel, the gel. In this one I was kind of a d-bag and got involved in EVERY aspect of the song. Tell me what you think!

I encourage everyone to take a listen and give me some advice on how to make it even better!

Thanks

Your song is like various metal objects placed in a blender but in a good way. Seriously, everything sits perfectly in the mix although he drums being slightly louder would be brilliant.

Also, props on the tone. You must have spent a lot of time on it I can tell.

This...plus maybe drop the guitar down a hair too.

I agree. Just a little. And a Little more drums, but I'm fairly proud of how the guitar and bass blend together

Here's what I used:

Squier VM Precision w/ Gotoh 201 Bridge, SPB-3 Pickups, CTS Pots, bone nut. and DR Lo-Rider Strings into a VT Bass straight into a Lexicon Lambda interface.

And yea, I spent quite a bit of time getting that tone down

more kick and snare. less guitar. a tiny bit sloppy with the guitars. i take it those guys dont do a good deal of downpicking. bass sounds pretty good. guitar sounds like a DI'd distortion pedal.

overall composition, sounds like some epic metal. like dream theatre without all the noodley doodley. maybe a touch repetitive, but thats coming from a guy that rarely plays the same part twice in a song.

I didn't like the mix...it sounds muddy like too much reverb? The music is cool.

The guitar WAS DI'd, but at the same time we did this in my computer room at 2am. And it's one guitar player actually, he harmonized the parts himself.

I'm of course partial to the bass...
My idea was a little less guitar in the chorus, little more drums throughout.

And as far as a muddy mix, if we redid the guitar with a Mic and my guitar players better guitar it'd be sweet. But I think given the suggestions everyone posted it would sound great.

I'm really glad everyone likes the song. Theres A LOT of influences in there... I've never thought of myself as a composer, but I had this idea in my head and ran with it. Fortunately my band mates let me have control and didn't try to d-bags about the song... they all listened to it and we're like "F#CK YEA"

Here's an updated version:

March of the Martyrs v2

Changed the drums a bit, fixed some more EQ, but the guitar is still DI'd in... We'll be redoing that shortly.

How does it sound now?

i have a hard time getting through the "fizzy" guitar tone ... the hi-hats sounded weird.

the bass sounds great though! ...

as for the song, i find it a little too straight forward.

The joys of a DI'd guitar... that will certainly be fixed shortly.

And can you elaborate on what you mean by straight-forward?

Any and all advice is definitely appreciated

Thanks on the bass tone compliment too
