My First Original Tapping... Thing

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's a thing I wrote, actually quite a while ago. It's the first tapping thing I've written, and I'm still quite new to this. It's not Jean Baudin, but it's a start: http://media.putfile.com/Interlude-32

Be gentle!

Graeme

P.S. I wrote this to be a little jam with my drummer. It sounds way cooler with drums, but for what it is, tell me what you think.

I like your tapping thing, and wouldn't mind hearing more of your compositions. This one is both well executed and musical. Good job!

Couple of things you need to work on.

1) There really isn't much of a developed melody. The thing about tapping on a bass guitar is that there's so much possibility to use melody in a way that stands out. I feel that was lacking. Could have been the desired effect, but it's something to think about. Try developing a more "catchy" and aquatic melody to juxtapose with the bassline.

2) The tone. Your bass has a real flat, hollow tone. Try beefing that up with some delay, reverb, etc. These two effects REALLY bring out tapping style on the bass.

i think there is a nice melody. this recording is obviously not ready for itunes and the masses...sounds to me like a simple recording going direct with the bass...the rhythm is a bit hesitated...but i think the point of this post was the idea and the technique which is new. it'll come along...but this was an awesome start for a piece like this!

Not bad, the tone was lacking and you messed up on the timeing a little near the end. The notes were nice and even, which is the important thing when you are starting out. Do you use your pinkey on your right hand? If not try to start, it will make things much easier.

Real soothing. I liked it, except about :30 there seems to be a funny bridge that could go smoother. Also a little before that I just picture the rest of the band kicking in with some distortion guitar and I don't know that's just how it sounds in my head if that was the intro to a song.

Yeah I use my pinky.

Thanks for the comments so far. The tone is indeed lacking, because of my crappy computer microphone used to record with. Also, the battery in my EMGs seems to be dying. But I just wanted to get the basic 'idea' across.
